ROCK SPRINGS - Funeral services for Clifford Leroy Renz, 91, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2008 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Lori Dvirnak Lundblad officiating. Graveside military honors and interment will take place at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 in the Lusk Cemetery.

Friends may call 6-8 p.m. today at Fox Funeral Home, 2800 Commercial Way, Rock Springs and one hour prior to services at the church.

Clifford Leroy Renz, 91, died Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County in Rock Springs.

He was born April 13, 1917 near Milburn, Neb., to Raymond Renz and Mary Hartson. He was a graduate of Milburn High School with the class of 1936.

He joined the U.S. Navy in 1939 where he was chief ship fitter. During his time in the Navy, he was able to watch the flag raising at Iwo Jima. After leaving the Navy and working his own successful business of carpentry, he received his bachelor's degree in Trades and Industry which lead to 27 years of teaching school. It was during his teaching period that he received his Master's degree from Colorado State University.

He married Eloise Swan of Lusk on May 1, 1943 at the YMCA in Norfolk, Va.

After retirement, he was a volunteer for 25 years with the Reliance Fire Department and was honored for his many services and dedication. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church and the Catholic Soup Kitchen in Rock Springs.

His interests included spending time with family and friends, hunting, fishing, the outdoors, participating in and watching competitive sports.

Survivors include his wife of Rock Springs; four sons, Dennis Renz of Yosemite Village, Calif., Charles Renz and wife of Rock Springs, Timothy Renz of Reliance, and Michael Renz of Casper; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Helen Immesote and Shirley Reich; and a son, Clifford James Renz.
