James Milton "Jim" Burdick

Services for James Milton "Jim" Burdick, 83, were conducted at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 28 at the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Hall in Wheatland, with Reverend Delbert Dick officiating. Inurnment will be held privately at a later date in the Lusk Cemetery at Lusk. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Gorman Funeral Homes - Platte Chapel of Wheatland.

He died Tuesday, April 25, 2006, at the Platte County memorial Hospital in Wheatland.

James was born Sept 1, 1922, in Moville, Iowa, the son of Isabelle (Mallert) and Harold Burdick. In 1943, he married Fern Scott and two children were born of this union. The couple later divorced. Jim was a very talented man and worked at many jobs throughout his life. He took part in the rebuilding of Hawaii after Pearl Harbor. Jim enjoyed reading western books, taking pictures, and fishing trips with family and friends. He was a very caring man and always enjoyed helping others. Jim moved to Wheatland, after being separated from his family for many years, to spend his remaining life near his family. He loved living at the Irvine Home and his friends there.

Survivors include a daughter, Myrna Birkle of Wheatland; three step-children, Beverly McDermitt of Paducah, Ky., Janet Oliver of Casper, and Micky Hock of Glenrock; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Robert; granddaughter, Becky Anne Burdick; two half sisters; and a half brother.
