C. M. Dean, Resident of County 22 Years, Dies Saturday at Node Home

Columbus Martin Dean, for 22 years a resident of this county, passed away at the family ranch home, five miles east of Node last Saturday morning, August 19th, at the age of 73 years, 10 months and 15 days. His passing followed two years of failing health during the last week of which Mr. Dean was confined to his bed. A complication of ailments, incident to advanced age, was given as the cause of demise.

The death of Mr. Dean is the first to be recorded in the family circle and the survivors, along with a host of warm friends, now mourn the loss of one whose memory will long linger with them. He was an affectionate husband and loving father, and a man who commanded the respect and admiration of all who made his acquaintance.

Mr. Dean was born in Burlington, Iowa, October 4, 1859. Twenty-two years ago, he with the family came to Wyoming, locating in this county, engaged in farming and ranching.

Besides his widow, Mrs. Sarah Ellen Dean, deceased is survived by two sons, Carl and Fred, both of this county and two daughters, Mrs. Lula Beyers of Node, and Mrs. Verna Reed, of Beatrice, Nebr. All were at the bedside at the hour of death.

A brief service was held at the ranch home Monday afternoon, August 21. Reverend Cowman of Van Tassell, offering a prayer. A vocal duet, "In the Garden," was sung by Mrs. Cowman and Miss Ruth Lewis. The remains were then conveyed to this city and funeral services were held at the Congregational church, Rev. Cowman officiating. Several beautiful and touching selections were rendered by the mixed quartette composed of Mrs. C. W. Erwin, Mrs. Abdon DeCastro, Ford B. Kuns and Alger Johnson. Mrs. Otto Koeberlin accompanied at the piano. Many friends were gathered at the church to pay their final tribute to a departed loved one.

The remains were laid to rest in the cemetery, the following long-time friends of the deceased and family serving as pallbearers: Frank Homes, Nick Crelly, R.O. Bump, A. A. McCoy, John Pfister and S. W. Sabin. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of George Earl Peet of the Peet Mortuary.
