John Michael Broderick

John Michael Broderick, 85, died Wednesday, March 11, 1987 at his Harrison, NE home. Services were Friday, March 20 at the Church of Nativity in Harrison with Father Carlson officiating.

Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery in Harrison.

Mr. Broderick was born in Woodbine, IA on Jan. 29, 1902, to Charles and Annie Griffin Broderick, the second of seven children. The family moved to Sioux County, NE in 1907 where they homesteaded 17 miles south of Harrison. He attended school in Harrison and at the Jesuit Brother School at Spalding, NE for three years.

He and Myrtle Phillips were married Oct. 24, 1924 at Julesburg, CO. They lived on ranches in Wyoming and Nebraska and raised their five children on the original Broderick homestead, where they lived until 1947. They then moved to Harrison.

Mr. Broderick was an avid horseman and was still actively involved in ranching at the time of his death.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters and his son, Pat.

He is survived by his wife, Myrtle; one son, Tom of Harrison; three daughters, Mary Ellen Osback of Casper, Jacqueline Herren of Harrison, and Kay Goecke of Guernsey; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Mike of Scottsbluff, NE and James of Sun City, FL.

Memorials can be made to the Harrison Rescue Unit or the Church of Nativity, c/o Security National Bank, Harrison.
