Funeral services for Thomas M. Broderick of Harrison were held Saturday, Jan. 27, 1990 at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Nativity Catholic Church in Harrison with Fr. Neal Nollette officiating. Burial was in the Harrison Catholic Cemetery. A wake service was held Friday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. at the church. Mr. Broderick died Wednesday, Jan. 24 at his home in Harrison.

Tom was born Feb. 25, 1929, at Grand Island, Neb. to John and Myrtle (Phillips) Broderick. They moved to Harrison and Tom attended grade school at the Riley school and Sioux County High School in Harrison.

He enlisted in the U. S. Navy at the age of 17. He served two years and was stationed in China.

Tom married Bonita Bourret, Dec. 23, 1950 at Harrison. Following their marriage Tom served as the Sioux County Sheriff for 9 ½ years and had the barber shop. He worked for "Mac" McClary and then bought the shop and "Mac" worked for Tom. At the time of Tom's death he owned a bean farm at McGrew, Neb. and was in the windmill business in Sioux County and the surrounding area.

Tom was, above all else, a devoted and caring family man. He was loved and respected by everyone that knew him. He was never too busy or too important to make time for kids, to offer encouragement or to share a story. If every kid could know someone like Tom, most of the world's problems would solve themselves. He instilled pride, honesty, self-esteem and love into the lives of so many and asked nothing in return. He lived every day of his life in selfless, loving devotion not only to those he loved so much, his wife, his children and grandchildren, but to all his family and friends.

His survivors include his mother Myrtle Phillips Broderick of Harrison; his wife Bonnie; son Michael John Broderick, Bloomfield, Neb.; daughter Susie Hatch of Laramie, Wyo.; sisters Jackie Herren, Harrison; Mary Ellen Osback, Lusk; and Kay Goecke, Guernsey; and five grandchildren: Kirby, Amy, & Holly Broderick and Jolie and Tom Hatch.

Chamberlain Chapel of Crawford was in charge of arrangements.

Tom was preceded in death by twin infant sons, his father and one brother.

A memorial has been established for the Harrison Rescue Unit or the church. Donations may be sent to Security National Bank. Mr. Broderick was affiliated with the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
