Walter Nathaniel Reed

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Congregational Church in Douglas for Walter N. Reed, 47, prominent rancher of the Lusk vicinity, who passed away at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Neb., early last Thursday morning, where he had been confined for several months with a serious sinus infection. Rev. Louis Gale was in charge.

With him at the time of his death was his wife, the former Mildred Blomquist, and her sister, Mrs. Charles Huntzinger.

Many friends from Lusk and Niobrara county attended the services.

Walter Nathaniel Reed was born in Marsland, Neb., Jan. 22, 1898. His early life was spent in Mitchell, Harrison, Neb., and at Weiser, Idaho. In 1913 the family came to Lusk. Here he was employed in the Bank of Lusk for three years following a course in Boyles Business college at Omaha. He then became a partner with his father in ranching and stock raising. His father preceded him in death, passing away in 1939. Since then Walter operated the ranch.

On June 24, 1931, he and Mildred Blomquist were united in marriage in Douglas. To this union two children were born, Walter, 10, and Sammy Charles, 8 years of age.

Besides his wife and two sons he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Walter Reed, Sr.; three brothers, Earl of Newcastle; Ray of Keeline, and Joe of Lusk; two sisters, Mrs. Frankie Hern of Douglas and Mrs. Fay Russell of Basin.

Pallbearers were: Peach Shaw of Orin, Roy Porter of Manville, George Mill and Ray Baughn of Lusk; John Downs of Douglas and Elvin Haworth of Keeline.

Burial was made in Douglas Park Cemetery.
