Richard Anderson Dies at Whitney
Richard Anderson, former homesteader and rancher some 8 miles northeast of Lusk, and later section foreman for the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad at various points, died Wednesday morning at Whitney, Neb.
He had been ill, but was feeling better and went out to feed the chickens Wednesday and collapsed while doing that task.
His remains are being brought to Lusk and funeral services will likely be held Friday, though arrangements had not been completed at The Herald press time.

Last Rites Held For J.R. Anderson
Funeral services for John Richard Anderson were held Friday from the Peet Mortuary and burial was in the Lusk Cemetery. Mr. Anderson had died at Whitney, Neb. June 2, at the age of 68.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. V. E. Henry, pastor of the Penecostal Church at Whitney. Pallbearers were R. J. Simon, R. V. Pfister, Roy Turnbull, Charles Lund, Sr., Carl Bruch, and Ralph Larson. Music was provided by Miss Justine Watson, Mrs. C. E. Marvin, Rex Yocum and Rev. Lawrence Juell, accompanied by Mrs. Otto Koeberlin, organist.
Mr. Anderson was born in Sweden March 20, 1880, the son of John and Matilda Anderson. He was the oldest of 12 children, five of whom preceded him in death. Mr. Anderson was baptized in Sweden and was confirmed in the Episcopal church in this country.
At the age of 8 he came to the United States with his parents and they made their home at St. Onge, S. Dak. On Dec. 24, 1901 he married Maude Helen Houston and to them were born three daughters.
In 1910 the family moved to Wyoming making their home on a ranch 10 miles northeast of Lusk. In the fall of 1923 the family moved to Lusk and Mr. Anderson worked for the railroad, making various moves until August, 1936, when he was moved to Whitney. He has lived there since, but retired from railroad work in 1945.
He is survived by his wife, Maude of Whitney; three daughters, Mrs. Fred Hansen of Lusk, Mrs. G. D. Oldds of Sundance, and Mrs. C.R. Gitthens of Casper; three sisters, three brothers, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
