The Windmill

On the crest of a hill
Stands a tall windmill
All weathered and worn and old;
For the sun and the rains
And the winds from the plains
And the years past have taken their toll.

The paint is all off,
There's a hole in the trough,
And rust on the pipe to the well;
But it never complains of the sun and the rains
And it has a great story to tell.

It stands tall and true.
It has a job to do,
And nothing deters its main goal.
For the harder the wind blows, the faster the wheel goes,
And gleans water from the earth's very soul.

May we look to the mill
Standing high on that hill,
And when life's troubled winds blow our way,
With our high goals in view,
May we stand strong and true,
And serve God and mankind every day.

The Cowboy We Call Daddy

By Kitty Harns

Though boys he never had,
He always thought us girls weren't half bad.
He taught us to ride, brand, and sweat,
And we learned how to hunt till
Our shot was a sure bet.
His hands are hard and callused,
But he has a gentle touch,
That can take away from the pain and grief.
We could never love another man so much.
And though he'll never see us grow into men,
We're "his little girls,"
Just as it's always been.
So, no matter how old we get,
He'll always be our hero,
The cowboy we call Daddy.
