Gertrude "Gertie" Anna Poage Eddington

Gertrude Ann Poage-Eddington, 93, passed away Monday, October 17, 2016, at her home.

Memorial funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 29, at the First Congregational Church with Reverend Matt Gordon officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley view Cemetery in Torrington. Cremation has taken place.

Memorials may be made to the Torrington Senior Friendship Center or the Alzheimer's Unit at Goshen Community Healthcare.

Gertie was born April 27, 1923, the daughter of Roy Clive and Dora (Miller) Carroll. She was born and raised on her parent's homestead in Torrington, just south of the river, and graduated from Torrington High School in 1941. Gertie married David True Poage May 10, 1943 in Lawton, OK. The couple moved to Keeline, Wyoming, in the lat 40's, where they were involved in wheat farming and cattle ranching. She was involved in 4-H as a girl and later was an active project leader in the Keeline Mile Hi 4-H Club from 1959-1971. She was active in the Keeline 5280 Extension Club from 1952 to 1999, 47 years. She never missed a homemaker's council meeting and you could always count on her to do more than her share. She was also Vice President of the Niobrara County Homemakers Council 1981-82 and President of the Niobrara County Homemakers Council 1983-84. Gertie was very proud of the fact that she was the first woman to serve on the Wyoming Wheat Commission. She was also a clerk of sales for Madden Brothers from the 1950's until 1998. Gertie and David were active members of the Belles and Beaus Square Dance Club in Torrington. Her first husband, David Poage, died December 9, 1989. Gertie moved back to Torrington. She dated David Eddington all through high school and after graduation the two went their separate ways. Later in life, they found each other and were married August 29, 1998. The couple loved to travel and enjoy family.

Gertie was an amazing seamstress, enjoyed traveling and loved to knit. She was a good and loving mother, wife, grandmother and friend. Gertie was a member of the First Congregational Church in Torrington and was also a member of "The Knitters Club" and PEO.

She is survived by her husband David Eddington; grandson Adam (Karyn) Wright and their sons, Jack and Robbie; grandson Luke (Beth) Wright and their sons Shane and Soren; grand-daughters Rebecca and Rachael; step-son Craig (Roxann) Eddington and their daughters Shannan and Katie; sister Elizabeth Huebotter and her daughters Nancy and Connie; niece Linda O'Neill; nephew Vernon (Theresa) Poage; niece Janice Barrs and many many cousins.

Preceding her in death was her first husband, David Poage; son David; daughter Judy Wright; sister Margaret Ford; niece Anita Jassman and nephew Blake Ford.
