Harold Reed Mundschenk

Harold Reed Mundschenk passed away on July 20, 2022 in Surprise, Arizona. Harold was born on February 22. 1932 on a farm in the Burge Community, Goshen, Wyoming. He grew up on farms in the Van Tassell and Keeline communities. He was the youngest child of George John Mundschenk and Anna Clara (Smith-Lull) Mundschenk. He was the last of nine children.

Harold met Daisy Shimek in a country elementary school in 1943. On September 6, 1953, in Lusk, Wyoming they were married. With this union of 62 years, a blessed family began.

He is survived by their four children: sons Kent (Susan) of Fayetteville, Georgia, Brad of Ingleside, Illinois, Steven (Patti) of Rolling Meadows, Illinois, and daughter Linda (Craig) Vossler of Mesa, Arizona. He was the proud grandfather of 11; Jennifer, Karen, Melissa, Ryan, Patrick, Brandon, Troy, Christopher, Erin, Alyssa, and Lauren; and great grandfather of 10: Katherine, James, Ryleigh, Lakelyn, Peyton, Archer, Theodore, Kai, Amberle, Zachary. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Daisy in 2015, his parents, a stepmother, two sisters and six brothers.

Harold graduated from Manville (WY) High School in 1950. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from The University of Wyoming in 1954. After graduation he went to work for Amoco Oil Company or predecessor companies in Casper (WY), Tulsa (OK), and Chicago (IL). Harold retired in 1988 after 33 years with the company.

Harold spent 14 years in the US Army National Guard (WY) from 1955 – 1969 as a Field Artillery Officer. He was issued an Honorable Discharge from the US Army standby reserve in 1971.

Harold was also active with Boy Scouts of America in many leadership positions for 13 years, from Assistant Cubmaster to Scoutmaster, then district council Advisor. A significant number of boys achieved the rank of Eagle Scout during his tenure, the percentage being well above the national average.

Shortly after Harold’s retirement, they relocated to Sun City West in 1992. They quickly became members of Desert Palms Presbyterian Church where Harold served in many capacities over the years, lastly as Church Treasurer.

He will be interned in the Desert Palms Presbyterian Church columbarium. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Desert Palms Presbyterian Church at 13459 W.
