William "Bill" Louis Kumpf Jr.

William “Bill” Louis Kumpf Jr. passed away at his home in Pryor, Oklahoma on April 11, 2025. He was born in Ashville, North Carolina to William John Louis Kumpf Sr. and Olive Virginia Wright Kumpf on March 12, 1951.

Bill’s father managed hotels for Hidalgo Oil and Gas Company, mainly in Texas, before moving to Lusk, Wyoming in 1963 to manage the Ranger Hotel until the company sold it in 1969.

Bill attended the Lusk schools, graduating from Niobrara County High School in 1970. He then attended several semesters at the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming, and the Cheyenne Community College in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Bill married Sandra “Sandy” Kay Ward, the daughter of Charley Claud Ward and Karey Irene DeHaven Ward on December 20, 1974 at the Baptist Church in Lusk, Wyoming. They were the parents of two children – Kari Sue Virginia born in 1975, and William Charles “Charley” born in 1978.

Bill’s main occupation was as an automobile mechanic. After residing in the Lusk/Manville area where Bill worked for the Conoco Service Station in Lusk, the family went to Lander, Wyoming in 1976, then to Rawlins, Wyoming and back to Lander before moving to Henderson, Nevada in 1999.

Bill retired in 2022 and in October 2024, he and Sandy moved to Pryor, Oklahoma with their daughter, Kari Sue, and her family.

One of Bill’s greatest joys in life was doing Motor Cross competitions with his son, Charley. From 1998 to 1999 they attended numerous events in the western United States until Bill was seriously injured in 1999.

 Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his parent-in-laws, his brother-in-law Wade William Ward, his sister-in-law Melody Elizabeth Ritter Ward, and several uncles, aunts and cousins.

Bill is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sandy, his daughter, Kari Sue and her husband Phillip DuWayne Postier and their children - Tobin Alexander Roche-Postier, Tiana Alexa Postier, Sierra Cheyenne Gregory, Michael Asar Postier, all of Pryor, Oklahoma, Cameron Paul Gregory and Marissa Gonzales of Henderson, Nevada, McKinzi Renee Postier Baker of Las Vegas, Nevada, Hunter Ann Postier of Florida, and their grandson, Alfredo Vincente Romero III, of Pryor, his son, Charley of Parona, California, his daughter-in-law Nicole Wakefield and his granddaughter Isabella Cassandra Ward, both of Fresno, California, his brother-in-laws, Alfred “Al” Claud Ward and his wife Linda Ann Morelli Ward of Lake Forest, California, Robert “Bob” Charles Ward and Laurie Lynn Tibbs Ward of Power, Montana, Criss Nolan Ward of Abilene, Texas, an aunt May Ellen Ward Smith of Manville, Wyoming, plus numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Bill's cremains will be buried at the Dellview Cemetery, south of Mannville,, Wyoming, on Sunday June 7, 2026.
