Funeral services for Frances Lenore "Stubby" Gillespie, 87, were held May 3, at Converse Funeral Chapel in Douglas, Wyoming with Rev. Rodney Saunders of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment was in Douglas Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Gillespie, a former resident of Douglas and Lusk, died Wednesday, April 28, 1999, at the Niobrara County Memorial Hospital.

Frances was born December 7, 1910, on a homestead in Dickey County, N.D., the daughter of Percy Eli and Bula May (Hutson) Haworth. She traveled by rail to Andrews, Neb, in 1915 with her mother and sister, her father followed on an immigrant train, bringing livestock and family possessions.

Frances attended schools in Nebraska and Wyoming, graduating from Douglas High School in 1928. She taught school for 14 years in Platte and Converse County country schools and at Dwyer, Wyoming.

She married Howard W. Gillespie in Crawford, Neb., on Aug. 23, 1936. They made their home in Douglas, where they were in the trucking business. Frances lived in Douglas 44 years; she resided in Sturgis, South Dakota for two years, and then in Lusk until the time of her death. She enjoyed crewel and loved little children.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon and husband Jim Hanlin of Casper; sister Bernice Reed of Lance Creek; three grandchildren, Todd Hamlin and wife Jennifer of Laramie; Brett Hanlin and wife Renee of Powell; and Tracy Hanlin of Laramie; four great grandchildren; Allison Hanlin, Brian Hanlin, Emma Hanlin and Meg Hamlin; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold on March 2, 1979, one sister Reba Thomas; two brothers, Elvin Haworth and infant brother Merle Haworth.

Serving as pallbearers were Steve Thomas, Bebe Reed, Bud Reed, Jeff Sukstorf, Don Watson, and Troy Watson.

Memorials to the Niobrara County Memorial Nursing Home, 921 Ballancee Avenue, Lusk, Wyoming 82225 would be appreciated by the family.

Converse Funeral Chapel of Douglas was in charge of arrangements.
