Lawrence A. Kaan

Funeral services for lifetime Lusk resident, Lawrence A. Kaan, age 64, were held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Congregational Church in Lusk with Rev. Robert Todd officiating.

Mr. Kaan died at his residence Friday, November 11, 1988. He was born July 7, 1924, at the family home of his parents, Menno and Mabel Kaan. He received his elementary education at Node and graduated from Lusk High School in 1941. He then attended the University of Wyoming.

In November of 1958, at Catasauqua, Pa., he married Mary Ellen Wenner. Following the marriage they lived on the family ranch where Lawrence was engaged in farming and ranching with his brothers.

He was a lifetime member of the First Congregational Church of Lusk, serving as Chairman of the Board of Trustees at the time of his death. He was a member of Custer Lodge #21 IOOF at Lusk, Mt. Valley Rebekah Lodge #15 at Douglas, and Newcastle Canton #9 at Newcastle. Lawrence was initiated into the Custer Lodge in 1946. He held numerous local and state offices including serving as Deputy Commander of the Patriarch Militant in 1968-1969 and Grand Master in 1971-1972. Presently he was serving as a Grand Representative to the Sovereign Grand Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Menno and Mabel Kaan.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen Kaan of Lusk; three sons, Dennis of Laramie, Daryl of Omaha, Nebraska, and Dale of Temecula, Cal.; one daughter, Jennifer Kaan of Cheyenne; two brothers, Gordon and Cecil Kaan both of Lusk; three sisters, Jantine Warnock of Riverton, Shirley Wallace of Moreno Valley, Cal. and Bonnie Thomas of Cheyenne; two grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

For those who wish memorials in Lawrence's name to either the First Congregational Church of Lusk or the Odd Fellows Retirement Home at Newcastle, Wyoming, will be appreciated by the family.
