Donald H. “Harry” Austin

Donald H. "Harry" Austin of Lusk died Nov. 17, 1985, at the age of 96. Mr. Austin was born Dec. 21, 1888, at Fetterman, the son of Charles and Mathilda Cambell Austin. He spent his early years near Douglas Wy. Following his discharge from the Army, He was employed by Peyton-Bollin Grocery Company in Douglas until moving to Lusk in 1930.

He married Edna Senters in St. James Catholic church in Douglas on April 24, 1918, for many years they operated Gay's Cafe and the Lusk Econ-o-Wash. He retired from Business in 1973.

A veteran of World War 1 and a 65-year member of the American Legion, He served as Commander and Adjutant of the American Legion Post Samuel Mares No. 8 in Douglas and Derk J. Weiten Post No.4 in Lusk.

He is survived by his wife, Edna of Lusk; two daughters, Maxine Koch of Arlington Va. And Louise Lawrence of Porterville Calf.; a brother John Austin of Apache Junction of Ariz.; a sister Margaret Averill of Porterville; six grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Marie, four brothers and three sisters.

Mass of the resurrection was celebrated by Fr. Tony Jablonowski at St. Leo's Catholic church Friday Nov. 22. Burial was in Lusk cemetery.

For those who wish, memorials to Niobrara Memorial Nursing Home or St. Joseph's Children's home in Torrington will be appreciated by the family. Peet Mortuary handled arrangements.
