Last Rites for Steven McKelvey, Saturday; Burial Lusk Cemetery

Concluding rites for Steven Lee McKelvey, four-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Harlan McKelvey were held at two o'clock Saturday afternoon, from the chapel of the Peet Funeral Home, with Rev. Keith Bruning, pastor of the Methodist Church in Harrison, Nebr., officiating.

During the services, Mrs. Ab DeCastro and Mrs. Sam Thomas, Jr., sang "Beckoning Hands" and "Jewels." They were accompanied by Mrs. J.P. Watson.

Bearing the remains to their final resting place in the Lusk Cemetery were Roger Seegrist, Ivol Martin, Eddie York and Robert York.

Steven Leo McKelvey, son of Harlen and Bernice McKelvey, was born at Lusk, Wyoming, on June 3rd, 1951, and passed away at the family home on April 5, 1956, at the age of four years, two months and two days.

When less than two years old, he underwent major surgery and since that time has been under the doctors care most of the time.

Steven was preceded in death by two brothers, Dennis Charles in March, 1948 and Scott Neal in July 1955.

Besides his parent, Steven is survived by two brothers, Ronald and Donald; one sister, Lynnet; his grandmother, Mrs. Emma DeKay of Harrison; his grandfather, Edward McKelvey of Lusk, as well as many other relatives and friends.

Little Steven showed a courage and cheerfulness throughout his illness that few adults are able to command in times of suffering.

Steven McKelvey Dies April 5

Steven McKelvey, 5, died April 5 at the family home south of Van Tassell from cancer.

Funeral services were held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. from the Peet Chapel with Rev. Keith Brunning, pastor of the Methodist Church of Harrison, officiating. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.

Mrs. A. F. DeCastro and Mrs. Samuel M. Thomas sang "Beckoning Hands" and "Jewels". Mrs. J. P. Watson was the organist.

Casket bearers were Roger Seegrist, Ivol Martin, Robert York and Eddie York.

Steven McKelvey was born June 3, 1951 in Lusk to Harlen and Bernice McKelvey. Two brothers have previously died: Dennis Charles in 1948 from inflammation of the brain, and Scott Neal in July 1955 as the result of a fall in which he struck his head.

Survivors include his parents and two brothers, Ronald and Donald, and a sister, Lynnet of the family home, maternal grandmother, Mrs. Emma DeKay of Harrison and paternal grandfather, Edward McKelvey of Lusk.
