O. L. Fox, Sioux Resident Since 1907, Dies

Orval L. Fox, 90, resident of Sioux County since 1907, died at Chadron Hospital on February 14.

The funeral service was held at Memorial United Methodist Church at Harrison on Sunday with the Rev. Larry Shrout officiating. Burial was in the Harrison Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ted Davis, Carl Engebretsen, John Engebretsen, Virgil Howard, Jim Howard, and Everett Parmeley.

Honorary pallbearers were: Dean Lundy, Tress Powell, J. A. McClarey, W. E. Mumby, Luther Koch, John Zimmerman, Albert Bunge, Frank Zerbe, Frank Harris of Crawford, Guy Yohe, Herman Peterson, Harold Skavdahl, Levi James of Mitchell, Henry Hoffman of Crawford, E. E. Whiteaker and Orville Corbin of Crawford.

Mr. Fox was born December 24, 1883, at Dexter, Iowa, to Elijah and Mary (Wright) Fox. He grew to manhood in and near Madison County, Iowa. On January 25, 1905, he married Gertrude E. Howard of near Dexter, Iowa. Six sons were born.

In 1907 the couple and their young sons Ivol and Floyd moved to Sioux County, Neb. where they homesteaded and lived until 1960. They then moved to Crawford where they made their home. Mrs. Fox died in May of 1973. Orie, as he was known by his many friends was a Sioux County High School Board of Regents member for many years. His interest in the high school and in the community was widely known.

Surviving are two sons, Jimmie and wife Eleanor of Phoenix, Ariz., and Eldon and wife Kay of Harrison; eight grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. C. R. Burrell of Greenfield, Iowa; two brothers, L. E. of Red Oak, Iowa and Fred of Winterset, Iowa.

Besides four sons, he was preceded in death by his wife Gertrude, his parents, three sisters, and two brothers, and two grandsons, Floyd Orie Fox and Robert E. Fox.

Out of town relatives and friends who attended Mr. Fox's funeral were: Leslie Fox of Red Oak; Dr. and Mrs. J. D. Fox of Cheyenne; Mrs. Mary Kay Folchert and boys of Gunnison, Colo.; Mrs. Barbara Quintana of Denver; Mr. and Mrs. George Johnson, Alliance; Leona Robins, Mr. and Mrs. Dick DeHaven, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Petersen, Mr. and Mrs. Rex Coffee, Mrs. Mildred Rice, Mrs. Ann Gibson, and Mrs. Agnes Semroska and girls, all of Chadron.

From Crawford were: Mr. and Mrs. Irvill Corbin, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hoffman, Mr. and Mrs. Tony Roos, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Trucks, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Pierce, Mrs. Stella Lindernam, Mr. and Mrs. E. L.
