Lue E. Osborn

Lue E. Osborn, Niobrara resident since 1922, died Sunday at his home in the Ranger Apartments.

Lue and his wife Mabel came to Wyoming January 12, 1922, after trading their home in Bassett, Neb., for the farm 14 miles north of Lusk at Hat Creek. The farm was the homestead of Mrs. Osborn's mother.

The Hat Creek farm was the home of Osborns for the most of 58 years. From the winter of 1927 until 1930 Osborns lived in Lance Creek where Mr. Osborn worked in the oil fields and drove the school bus. The only other time they moved from their home was November 1947, when they went to Elmira, Ore. July, 1949, they returned to Hat Creek where they resided until September 1978, when they moved to Lusk to live in the Ranger Apartments.

Mr. Osborn, 86, looked forward each day to visiting with his friends in the lobby of the Ranger, according to the family.

Mr. Osborn's hobby and livelihood through the years has been his love of animals. As a young man, he caught horses in the canyon along the Niobrara River of Nebraska to break, train and sell. He also raised cattle, sheep, mules and horses.

Lue Osborn was born May 6, 1894, at Brocksburg, Keya Paha, Neb. to Emma Belle (Pettit) and William Leonard Osborn. He married Mabel C. Bussinger December 9, 1916, at Ainsworth, Neb. They farmed in rural Springview, Neb., the farm of Lue's father. until moving to Wyoming.

Osborns were the parents of five daughters, all born in Niobrara County. Mr. Osborn was especially fond of his grandchildren and young people. The grandchildren took turns staying with their grandparents during the summer.

Funeral service was this Wednesday, June 25, at the Peet Mortuary Chapel with the Reverends Lawrence Kelley and Delbert Dick officiating.

Edna DeCastro was organist with Jim Willson singing "The Old Rugged Cross" "Beyond The Sunset" and "In The Garden."

Interment was in the Lusk Cemetery. Casket bearers were Albert Ruffing, Ed Cook, Bud Hoblit, John Goddard, Harry Baker and Ed Boner.

Honorary bearers were Burr Bryant, Melvin Miller, Walt Farrell, Bob Shockley, C. E. Marvin, Bob Scott, Joe Klemke, Harold Rogers, Tom McCullough, Bill Hoblit, Bud Owens and John Jassman.
