Joe Panno Dies of Heart Condition

Joseph Panno, 76, died Sunday in the Niobrara County Memorial Hospital from a heart involvement. Rosary services were held Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. from Peet Chapel. High Mass of Requiem was sung Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church with Father M. J. McBrien officiating. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.

Pall bearers were Marvin Skillings, Fred Kettler, Fred Hansen, William Welch, Oscar Alexander and Sven Johnson.

Joseph Panno was born January 21, 1882, in Palermo, Sicily, the only child of Virginia and Santo Panno. He came to the United States as a young boy in 1894 and settled in Chicago.

In 1908 he came to Wyoming as an extra gang foreman of the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad. He homesteaded at Keeline in 1910. In 1920 he returned to Sicily to visit his father and on April 21, 1921 was married to Consantina (Consettina) Raia in Palermo. They came to Keeline to make their home on July 13, 1921 and continued farming until 1924 at which time he quit farming and went back to work for the Chicago and North Western.

They established residence in Manville and lived there until 1949, at which time he retired from the railroad and moved to Lusk where they operated Bud's Hamburger Shop. In 1952 they bought the Flower Nook and he went to work for the Town of Lusk. He retired from this work in 1956. September 1, 1957 he and Mrs. Panno bought the Diner.

Survivors include his wife and one daughter, Jean. His mother and father previously died.
