Graveside Rites Held for James S. Potter Sr. in Torrington; Funeral Rites Held in Oceanside, California

Concluding services were held for the late James S. Potter, Sr. of Oceanside, California at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 8, from the Oceanside Chapel with Rev. Roy D. Brokenshire of the Union Church of Carlsbad, Calif. officiating. During the services, James L. Bates, organist played "The Old Rugged Cross."

The remains were shipped to Torrington, Wyo., where graveside rites were held under the arrangement of Colyer and Colyer Mortuary, Monday. The remains were laid at rest in the family plot in the Torrington cemetery beside a son, Claude who had passed away in 1925. Casketbearers were Jalmer Thon, Del Shoopman, James McCune, Clair Lee, Jesse McCormick and Bob Taylor all of Lusk.

James S. Potter, son of James and Jennie Potter, was born October 31, 1886 at Pardee, Kans. and departed this life Sunday, August 5, 1956, at the family home in Oceanside, Calif., at the age of 70 years, nine months and five days. Death was due to lung cancer from which the deceased suffered for two years.

When he was a small child his family moved to Stuart, Nebr., where they lived until 1918. Early in life he learned the carpenter trade, which he followed all his life. On June 21, 1918 he was united in marriage to Dollie Gier of Alliance, Nebr.

The couple moved to Omaha, Nebr. where they lived until 1926, when they moved to Torrington, Wyo. In 1927 they moved to Lusk, Wyoming where they lived until 1942, at which time they went to the state of Washington and in 1943, to Oceanside, Calif. where they have since resided.

Survivors include his wife, Dollie of Oceanside, Calif., three sons, James S. Potter, Jr. of Lusk, Wyo., Sgt. Jule Potter who has been stationed in Greece and is now stationed at Fort MacArthur, San Pedro, Calif.; Harold Potter of Bel Air, Maryland; one daughter, Mrs. Wyoma Paris of Escondido, Calif.; and six grandchildren.

James Potter Dies in Calif.

James S. Potter, 69, of Oceanside, Calif., father of James Potter of Lusk, died August 5 at his home in Oceanside from cancer. Funeral services were held August 8, from the Oceanside Mortuary and graveside services were held Monday at 2:30 p.m. at Torrington with Rev. Frank Bozart, Pastor of the Open Bible Standard Church of Lusk officiating.

Casket bearers were James McCune, Del Shoopman, Jalmer Thon, Clair Lee, Bob Taylor, and Jess McCormick.

James S. Potter was born in Pardee, Kansas, Oct. 31, 1886. He made his home in Lusk from 1927 until 1942 at which time he and his family moved to Washington and later settled in Oceanside, Calif. in 1943 where he has since resided.

He is survived by his wife, and three sons, Jim of Lusk, Jule who is in the Army, Harold of Maryland and one daughter Mrs. Wyoma Paris who lives in Calif.
