Charles Gaukel Dies Here Friday

Charles M. Gaukel, 75, of Keeline, died Friday afternoon at the Spencer Hospital. He had suffered a heart attack while boating on Glendo Reservoir May 10. Rosary services were held Monday at 7:00 p.m. from Peet Chapel and Requiem Mass was sung Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. from St. Leo's Catholic Church. Father M. J. McBrian officiated. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Burt Jones, Kenneth Hughes, Louis Bowen, Jim Smith, Edwin Tschacher and Leo Heins.

Charles Matthew Gaukel was born Oct. 12, 1883 in Chicago, the son of Minrad and Marie Mouthe Gaukel. At 7 he moved with his parents to Burwell, Neb.

He and Anna Amelia Deafenbaugh were married in 1905. In 1908 they moved to Weaubleau, Mo., where they lived until the spring of 1912 at which time they moved back to Burwell. They came to Wyoming and homesteaded at Jireh in 1914, where they have since made their home.

Survivors include his widow; nine children: Emery Gaukel, Mrs. Ruby Nelson, Keeline; Mrs. Anna Nelson, Lance Creek; Allan Gaukel, Twin Falls, Ida.; Mrs. Marie Sperry, Paul, Ida.; Mrs. Marjie Patten, Ft. Morgan, Colo.; Clarence Gaukel, Denver; Mrs. Dorothy Hipsley, Dearborn, Mich.; Charles H. Gaukel, Thermopolis; three brothers: Tom, Centralia, Wash.; Frank, Bairoil, Wyo.; Bill, Burwell, Neb.; two sisters: Mrs. Tillie Seaman, Paradise, Cal.; Mrs. Ellen Frost, Atkinson, Neb.; 20 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. His parents, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren previously died.
