Edward "Ed" Herman Schroefel

Concluding Services Held Friday for Edward H. Schroefel, County Pioneer; Interment Made in Lusk Cemetery

Concluding services were conducted at two o'clock Friday afternoon for the late Edward H. Schroefel, Niobrara county pioneer, who succumbed to a chronic heart ailment Wednesday, Apr. 20th at the Niobrara Memorial Hospital. Services were held at the chapel of the Peet Funeral Home with Rev. Jacob Nein, pastor of the First Congregational Church of Lusk, officiating.

The services were enriched with the singing of "In the Garden," and "Beautiful Isle" by a quartet composed of Rex Yocum, Donely Unruh, Jerry and Dale Bardo. Mrs. J.P. Watson presided at the organ.

Interment was made in the family plot in the Lusk cemetery with the remains being borne to their final resting place by Roy Zumbrunnen, James Christian, Charles Heumier, Anthone Hansen, Carl Bruch and Ralph Larson. Honorary pallbearers were Arthur Thompson, Henry Lenz, Charles Hunter, Charles Lund, Sr., Walter Hitz, Chris Jassman, Henry Petz and Dudley Fields.

Edward Herman Schroefel was born March 1st, 1880 at Tamaqua, Penn., a son of John and Mary Schroefel, and passed away April 20th, 1955 at Lusk, Wyoming at the age of 75 years, one month and 19 days.

When he was a very small child the family moved to Junction City, Kansas where they made their home until in 1887 when they came to Niobrara County, Wyoming to join their father who had preceded them here in 1886 when he homesteaded on Duck Creek. The original Schroefel homestead is now included in the Ed Schroefel ranch that is operated by his son, Warren H. Schroefel.

In 1915, he was united in marriage to Miss Esther Lind, and to this couple one child, Warren H. Schroefel was born. They made their home on the well-known Schroefel ranch north of Lusk, where they successfully engaged in the ranching business until three years ago when he retired because of poor health.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Charles Schroefel. Survivors include his wife, Esther, of this city; one son, Warren Schroefel, a sister, Mrs. Clara Lorenzen, two grandchildren, Warren, Jr., and Gloria Schroefel all of Lusk.

Ed Schroefel Dies in Hospital Here Wed. Morning

E. H. "Ed" Schroefel, a pioneer in Niobrara County, died Wednesday morning at the Niobrara Memorial Hospital. He had been in failing health for some time.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the Peet Chapel with Rev. Jacob Nein of the Lusk Congregational Church officiating. Interment will be in the Lusk cemetery.

Ed Schroefel was born in Tamaqua, Penn., the son of John and Mary Schroefel. In 1887 he accompanied the family to Wyoming to join his father who had homesteaded land on Deck Creek in 1886. This land is now included in the present Ed Schroefel ranch, operated by Warren Schroefel.

In 1915 he married Miss Esther Lind and the couple continued to live on the ranch until a few years ago when they moved to town. They have resided in Lusk since then.

His parents and one brother preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Esther Schroefel; one son, Warren, a sister, Mrs. Clara Lorenzen; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services For Edw. Schroefel Held in Lusk Fri.

Funeral services for Edward H. Schroefel, 75, were held Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the Peet Chapel with Rev. Jacob Nein of the Lusk Congregational Church officiating.

A male quartet composed of Donley Unruh, Rex Yocum, Dale M. Bardo and Gerald D. Bardo sang "In the Garden" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" accompanied by Mrs. J. P. Watson, organist.

Honorary pallbearers were: Henry Lenz, Charles Hunter, Charles Lund, Walter Hitz, Henry Petz, Arthur Thompson, Dudley Fields and Chris Jassman. Pallbearers were: Anthon Hansen, Carl Bruch, Ralph Larson, Charles Heumier, James Christian and Roy ZumBrunnen.

Interment was in the Lusk cemetery with the Peet Mortuary in charge.

Mr. Schroefel took an active interest in community affairs and was at one time a member of School District No 1 school board. He was also a member of the first board of directors of the Niobrara Electric Association and worked long and tirelessly promoting this project.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Charles Schroefel. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Esther Schroefel; his son, Warrren H.; a sister, Mrs. Clara Lorenzen; two grandchildren, Warren E. and Gloria; and several nieces and nephews.
