Lee Stoddard Dies Thursday; Services Monday

Lee C. Stoddard, 75, a resident of the Manville and Douglas areas for over 70 years died in St. Mary's Hospital in Scottsbluff last Thursday afternoon following a prolonged illness. Funeral services were held from the Peet Chapel in Lusk Monday afternoon.

The Rev. Theodore Foster of St. George's Episcopal Church officiated. Services were also conducted by the Mariposa Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. Harmony Masonic Lodge conducted graveside services.

Robert Huey sang "Crossing the Bar" and "Whispering Hope." Mrs. J. P. Watson was organist.

Pallbearers were: H. L. Gautschi, Richard Kant, Max Bird, O. M. Rasmussen, Charles V. Lee, Fred Sheaman. Honorary pall bearers were: Harold Fosher, Allen Fosher, Al Knudsen, Zeb Ward, T. L. Cantrell, James Willson, Ted Lohr, Hans Gautschi, Gene Wilson, J. P. Watson, James Barrett, Fay Outhouse, Allen Leeling, William Kant, Jess York, G. L. Pfeifer, Beryl Fullerton and Walter Kant.

Lee Crownover Stoddard was born January 12, 1890 at Benedict, Nebr. to Mr. and Mrs. James Stoddard. He and his parents moved to Wyoming when he was very young.

Mr. Stoddard graduated from Manville High School with the class of 1909 and attended Jireh College where he met, and later married, Fama Hess.

After marriage he and Mrs. Stoddard ranched with his uncle, Charles Sheaman. For many years he was employed by the Continental Oil Company in Manville.

Mr. Stoddard served as Manville Town Clerk for 34 years and one year was mayor. He was a past patron of the Mariposa Chapter of Order of Eastern Star and a past master of Roosevelt Masonic Lodge of Manville. He served on the School Board at Manville for 14 years and was active in promoting the Boy Scout movement there.

Burial was in the Manville Cemetery beside his uncle, Charles Sheaman. He made his home with Mr. Sheaman after his parents died.

Survivors include his widow; a son Ray, Fullerton, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. D. L. Eby, West Hartford, Conn. and six grandchildren.
