M. P. Vollmer, Lusk Resident and Businessman 57 Years, dies Sunday

Milton P. Vollmer, 89, died at the Niobrara County Memorial Hospital Sunday Oct. 17. Funeral service was being held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Peet Chapel with Philip King Torrington, Church of Christ officiating. Mr. King was formerly pastor of the Church of Christ in Lusk.

Mrs. Edna DeCastro is accompanying Russell Olmsted, soloist, singing "In the Garden" and "Beyond the Sunset." Graveside service at the Lusk Cemetery was being conducted by members of the Odd Fellow Lodge of Lusk.

Casket bearers were Cliff Cox, C. E. Hollon, N. V. Lamb, Gordon Kaan, Otto Krekeler and Ab DeCastro.

Honorary pallbearers were Nick Kaan, Menno Kaan, Woodson Graham, Buck Culver, Duff Hollon, Harry Lorenzen, Orville Allbright and Rex Heth.

Milton Vollmer was born in Martinsburgh, W. Va. April 22, 1882, to David Franklin and Catherine Jennie Bluhm Vollmer. At the age of 11 the family moved to Minneapolis, Minn., where they lived for two years. They then moved to Sisserton, Indian Agency in South Dakota where his father was a government engineer. From there they moved to Pullock, La., where he lived until he was 19 years of age.

On August 13, 1904, he married Mabel Riley in Williamsport, Pa., moving to Monroe, La., until 1914 when they moved to Lusk. Mr. Vollmer started in the garage and machine business in which he participated until his death.

He was a member of the Oddfellow Lodge for 67 years having served as Noble Grand of the Lusk Lodge. He served on the school board for several years and was treasurer during that time.

His wife died previously. He is survived by a sister Mrs. Molley Hawthorne, Lufkin, Tex., and seven children, Mrs. Clell Brown, Lingle, Mrs. Helen Heminger, Lusk, Mrs. Alice Blair, Sidney, Franklin, Asuncion, Paraguay, Bob and Pat, Lusk, and Mrs. William Ahl, Rawlins, 20 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
