Emil W. Vyzourek dies

Emil W. Vyzourek, 77, died Saturday at the Crawford hospital after a short illness. He had ranched for many years in north Sioux County.

He was born Sept. 15, 1898, the seventh of ten children, to Joseph J. and Theresa M. Vyzourek on a small farm near Parnell, Mo. At the age of seven he moved with his parents and family to a farm near McDonald, Kans., where he grew to manhood and received his schooling in a small country school.

On Oct. 22, 1924, he was married to Lena K. Yost in Holyoke, Colo. One daughter, Helen L. was born. He spent his entire working life on a farm or ranch raising grain and livestock. In 1936 they moved from Kansas to a ranch near Ardmore, S.D. in Sioux County.

In 1962 he and his wife sold their ranch in Sioux County to their daughter Mrs. John Engebretsen and husband of Harrison and moved to Crawford. On January 7, 1964 his wife died in a Denver hospital after a long illness.

On July 7, 1957, he became a member of the Congregational Church of Ardmore. After moving to Crawford he had his membership changed to the Congregational Church there and was baptized by the Rev. C. Robert Todd.

He was married on January 25, 1976, to Gertrude Buckley Lein at her home in Crawford by the Rev. Rudy Sauter.

Emil was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Joseph W. and Frank J., two sisters, Anna in infancy and Bessie Beeson.

He is survived by his widow, his daughter Helen L. and husband John Engebretsen; three grandchildren Ralph W., Jean L. and Virginia L Engebretsen; one great-grandson Jan Engebretsen; four sisters, Helen Hastings, Gertrude Hastings, Idella Jent, and Wilma Halbert; and one brother, Charles Vyzourek; and three stepsons, Leroy, Melvin and Kenneth Lien.

Funeral service was conducted in the Nazarine Church at Crawford with Masonic rites on February 10, with Rev. Rudy Sauter officiating. Pallbearers were Robert Geiser, Robert Staudenmaier, George Wasserburger, Ray Semroska, Leroy Lein, and Melvin Lein.

Interment was in the family plot at Grae Cemetery, McDonald, Kans. on Feb. 11 with the Rev. C. Swihart officiating.
