Memorial services for Charles William "Chuck" Widick, 63, were Nov. 5, 1996, at the Christ Episcopal Church in Douglas with the Rev. Marion Canterbury and Lay Minister Dave Byer officiating. Memorials are to the Esterbrook Community Association for the purchase of cardiac resuscitation equipment for the first aid unit, 32 Pine-Esterbrook, Douglas, Wyo., 82633.

Mr. Widick died Nov. 2, 1996, at the emergency room at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper.

He was born April 26, 1933, in Douglas to Kenneth Lloyd and Ruth Irene (DeWitt) Widick. His younger sister, Wanda (Hinkley/Schrimer) and a younger brother, Harold "Buzz" were also born in Douglas. He was reared and educated in Douglas and Buffalo.

He served in the United States Army for the years 1953-1956 attaining the rank of sergeant. Upon his return to Douglas from the Army, he joined the Douglas Police Department. He married June Arline Swope Aug. 25, 1958, in Buffalo. They had three daughters, Charlotte Irene, Cheryl Lynn (Pollo) and Cheri Kae (Gibson).

He left the police force to work several constructions jobs. He purchased the former Steak House with June and changed the name to the Wrangler Cafe. The Widicks operated this cafe for 15 years. He also co-owned a Phillips 66 station with Larry Crummer for four years.

He returned to the police force in 1971. He moved to the Converse County Sheriff's department in 1974. He was elected sheriff in 1978.

He returned to the police department in 1983 and worked there until his retirement earlier this year. He took early retirement to enjoy his home in Esterbrook and spend time doing his favorite activities.

He was out hunting with his family just prior to his death. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, four-wheeling and snowmobiling.

He was a member of the Esterbrook Community Association, Wyoming Peace Officers Association, American Legion, National Rifle Association and American Association of Retired Persons. He was a long time and active member in the Jaycees in the past.

He was preceded in death by his father and grandmother Enie DeWitt.

Survivors include his wife; daughters; mother; brother; sister; grandchildren Charles and Jennifer Gibson, Robert William, Aretha and Zachery Pollo, Andriana and Channis Tagart; step-grandchild Christ Weaver; and many friends and relatives.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Joe Burkholder, Jim Johnson, Clarence Ramseier, Jim Weaver, Robert Pollo and David Gibson.

The Converse Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
