Marjorie Swope, 6, Dies of Injury in Fall With Scooter

Marjorie Swope, six, of Lusk died Saturday, September 9, as a result of an injury she received while playing on her scooter Wednesday, September 6, when she took a fall, evidently striking her abdomen.

At first the fall was not considered serious, just one of the normal bumps most children receive. However, she became ill and was taken to the Spencer Hospital on Friday and died on Saturday, September 9, of an abdominal hemorrhage.

Last rites were held for Majorie Retta Swope in the Peet Chapel at 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 11. Rev. Lawrence P. Juell of the Lusk Congregational Church conducted the services.

Mrs. Anita Culver presented a solo at the service, "Silent Night." Later a duet of Anita Culver and Edna DeCastro sang "Jewels." Mrs. Floyd Deuel presided at the chapel organ.

Burial was made in the Lusk cemetery, with Davene Wilson, Patricia Hytrek, Kay Glover and Joyce Tenney acting as pallbearers.

Surviving Marjorie Swope, who was born in Lusk on February 2, 1944, are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Swope of this city, her sister Ruth, and two half-brothers, Oliver and Murray Butler of Nebraska.

This is the second death in the Swope family in the past two months, as Marjorie's half brother, Gordon Butler was drowned on July 4, 1950.
