Last Rites Held for Cecil Bayne

Funeral services were held at Newcastle last Thursday for Cecil Bayne who died May 1 at the Newcastle Hospital.

The services were at 2:00 p.m. in the First Methodist Church of Newcastle. The Rev. Robert Morgan officiated, Mrs. D. K. Wiltze, organist, accompanied Mrs. Davis Crum as she sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beyond the Sunset".

Casket bearers were Orville Hayes, Arden Shuck, Carl Sikes, Gene Diedtrich, James Borgialti, and Chester Johnson. Honorary bearers were Robert Scott St., Harold Yeager, Jim Zerbst, Tom Beebe, Harold Hammell and Everett Parmely. Burial was in the Greenwood cemetery at Newcastle.

Survivors include his widow, Vurel, Newcastle; two daughters, Sammie Scott, Scottsbluff; Lonna Belle Thayer, Harrison; four sons, Chad and Chan of Colorado, Mike of Sidney, Nebr., and Tom of Newcastle; four sisters, Eva Jefferies of Thermopolis, Gladys Morriso of Spokane, Irene Boyland of Las Crusas, N. Mex., and Leona Miller of Edgemont; four brothers, Clyde of Newcastle, Howard of Mangla, Pakistan, Lester of Powell, and Lloyd of Yuba City, Calif.; and 12 grandchildren.

His parents and one sister died previously.

Mr. Bayne was born January 21, 1904 at Phillips, Nebr., the son of George W. and Iva Belle (Dickinson) Bayne. He came with his family to Cheyenne River area near Roxon by covered wagon and his parents homesteaded there in 1921.

He worked as county patrol road maintainer of Weston County and followed construction work for many years. He attended college at Rapid City School of Mines and also worked in Homestake Mines at Lead.

Mr. Bayne was married to Vurel Cummings from the Morrisey community October 25, 1937 and they were the parents of six children.

Out of town relatives and friends attending the services were his children, two sisters, Mrs. Boyland and Mrs. Miller, his brother Lloyd and wife of Yuba City, Mr. and Mrs. Everett Parmely, Harrison, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Scott, Hat Creek, and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Traphagan of Lance Creek.
