Charles M. Wilson

Charles M. Wilson, 84, former administrator of Crook County Memorial Hospital died Sunday, April 3, 2005. Wilson moved to Sundance in 1969 to manage the laboratory and radiological services at the hospital.

Wilson was born Sept. 27, 1920, to Charles E. Wilson and Mildred Nothnagel at Charlotte Amelie, U.S. Virgin Islands, which had been purchased from Denmark just four years before. He was the oldest of four children, including Ruth, Bob, and Betty. Ruth and Bob preceded him in death.

He married Mary Jean Wilson on Jan 7, 1950 at Denver, Colo. Wilson served in the U. S. Army as a combat medic in the 34th Infantry Division from 1939 to 1945. World War II campaigns included the invasion of North Africa in 1942; the landing in Salerno, Italy in 1943; and the Anzio landing and liberation of Rome in 1944.

A decorated combat veteran, Wilson retired from the Army which brought new opportunities. Wilson worked briefly in laboratories in Springfield, Mo. and Lusk. He managed the hospital laboratory in Alliance, Neb., for three years prior to the move to Sundance.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jean Wilson, Sundance; sons Charles and his wife Janet, League City, Texas; Thomas and his wife Marty, Oro Valley, Ariz.; Steven and his wife Tracy, Sundance; David and his wife Svetlana, Issaquah, Seattle, Wash.; and Daniel Wilson, Sundance; daughter Susan Fraser and her husband Mike, Middleton, Calif.; grandsons Geoffrey Fraser, Joe Wilson, Gregory Fraser, Robert Wilson, Patrick Fraser, Adam Wilson, David Daly, and Dalton Wilson; granddaughters Erin Wilson, Kimberly Wilson, Kourtney Wilson, and Tabitha Daly; and one sister Elizabeth J. Spencer, Las Vegas, Nev. Memorial services were Thursday, April 7, 2005, at Church of Good Shepherd Mission Episcopal in Sundance, with Rev. Fr. Cliff Moore officiating. Inurnment followed at Black Hills national Cemetery near Sturgis, S.D.

A memorial has been established to the Church of Good Shepherd Mission Episcopal in Sundance. Arrangements were placed in the care of Fidler-Roberts & Isburg Funeral Chapel, Sundance.
