Robert "Alan" Butler

Robert Alan Butler passed away suddenly at his home in Arvada, Colo. on Dec. 7, 2006. At his request, no public services were held. An open house was held at his home on Dec. 13, 2006 to celebrate his life with family and friends.

"Alan", as his friends and classmates knew him, was born July 3, 1945 in Lusk, to Bud and Iva Butler. He attended school in Lusk and graduated from Niobrara County High School in 1964. Alan was an Eagle Scout.

While in high school, he excelled in football and wrestling. In football, Alan played tackle on two consecutive undefeated teams. As a junior, he was named right tackle all-conference. As a senior, he was one of seven from Lusk named to all-conference and one of three named to AP's all-state. During four years, Alan played a vital roll in the unparalleled record: 29 wins, 4 losses and 1 tie; scoring 1,036 points and giving up 233 points. In wrestling as a sophomore, Alan placed third at regionals and third at State; as a junior at 180#, he was second at district and second at state; as a senior at 180#, Alan placed second at regionals and fourth at State. Lusk was third at state behind Laramie and Casper.

Alan enlisted in the U.S. Navy in Sept. 1964 and became a Navy Seal. He served in Vietnam and received an honorable discharge in Sept. 1968.

Following discharge, Alan pursued a career in electronics and computers and worked for Schlumberger Oil.

Alan and Connie Bean met while they were in high school and were married Jan. 2, 1969 in Cheyenne. Connie brought two very young boys to the marriage, Richard and Mark McNally, and Alan was the only father they ever knew. Together, Alan and Connie had a daughter, Burgundee.

Although most lived out-of-state, Alan enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, taking them to the movies and for ice cream. He would show whoever wanted to know, all about the computer and what it could do. Alan was well known for being a jokester.

Alan is survived by his wife, Connie, of 38 years; Richard (Missy) McNally of Roswell, NM, Mark (Michelle) McNally of Apache Junction, AZ, and Burgundee Butler of Aurora, Colo., 10 grandchildren; a sister, Berdina McCabe of Torrington; and a brother, John, of Tucson, AZ. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, David; and one grandson.
