John Stone, Bank Cashier Here Many Years, Dies Tues.

John C. Stone, 62, former cashier and vice president of the Lusk State Bank, died Tuesday morning at the Niobrara Memorial Hospital. He had been in failing health since before his resignation from the bank in June 1947. His death was attributed to Parkinson's disease.

Funeral services are being held at the Peet Mortuary Thursday morning at 10:00 with the Rev. Clyde Hampton in charge. The body will be taken to Eaton, Colo., his former home, for burial and graveside services. Pallbearers here who will accompany the body to Eaton are C. E. Marvin, C. W. Irwin, C. P. Owens, Roy Chamberlain, Sharon Chamberlain and T. A. Godfrey.

Mr. Stone was born March 9, 1890 in Laurasville, Ohio, the son of John Charles and Elizabeth Doney Stone. He attended grade school there until his father died when a boy of 13, and he then went to Eaton, Colo. to live with an aunt, Mrs. George Oliver. He attended high school there and in his early twenties started working in a bank, the occupation which he was to follow most of his life.

During the bank moratorium period he was named conservator of a closed bank at Ft. Morgan, Colo., and later worked as a bookkeeper for H. W. Read Construction Co. at Yellowstone Park.

He came to Lusk in 1936 to become cashier of the Lusk State Bank and served there until June 1947.

He married Ethel Palmer, Feb. 20, 1916 at Eaton. They had no children, and she died at Lusk in December 1940. He married Miss Sally Grant of Lusk on March 20, 1943, and she survives him. Also surviving are two brothers, F. B. Stone of Greeley, Colo.and C. E. Stone of Eaton.

Mr. Stone had been a lifetime member of Eaton Masonic Lodge No. 109 and was a past master. He was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star there and a past patron of the order. At Lusk he was a member of the Lusk Lions Club for over 10 years.

A sister of Mrs. Stone, Helen Grant of Seattle, Wash. came here Monday, and another sister, Mrs. J. W. Whaley of Iliff Park, Idaho and her husband and son were expected this Wednesday evening as was a nephew of Mr. Stone, Glen Hicks, his wife and son of Worland.

John C. Stone Passes Away Tuesday Following Years of Failing Health; Last Rites Today; Burial at Eaton, Colo.

Death came quietly Tuesday morning to claim the life of John C. Stone, who had been in poor health for a number of years. During his illness he had been patiently and tenderly cared for at home until the last few days that he was confined in the Niobrara Memorial Hospital, where he passed away.

Last rites were held at ten o'clock this (Thursday) morning in the chapel of the Peet mortuary with Rev. Clyde E. Hampton officiating. During the services Frank O. Kuhn sang as solos, "Abide With Me" and "The Old Rugged Cross," with organ accompaniments being provided by Mrs. J.P. Watson.

Following the ceremony, the remains were taken overland of his former home, Eaton, Colo., where graveside services and burial will be made. Serving as pallbearers were C.P. Owen, C. W. Erwin, T.A. Godfrey, Roy Chamberlain, Sharon Chamberlain, and C. E. Marvin, who with the exception of Mr. Marvin accompanied the body to Eaton. There an old-time friend, Floyd Tyson, served in Mr. Marvin's place.

He attended elementary school in Laurasville, Ohio until the death of his father, and at the age of 13 years, he went to live with an aunt, Mrs. George Oliver. He attended high school there and in his early twenties started working in a bank, the occupation which he followed most of his life. He was named conservator of a closed bank of Fort Morgan, Colo., during the moratorium period, and later worked as bookkeeper for H. W. Read construction Co., at Yellowstone Park.

He came to Lusk in 1936 as cashier in the Lusk State Bank and served in that capacity until June 1947.

Mr. Stone was twice married, his first wife being Ethel Palmer, whom he married on February 20th, 1916 at Eaton. They did not have any children. She passed way December 8th, 1940 in this city.

On March 20, 1943, he was united in marriage to Miss Sally Grant of this city, the rites being solemnized at Scottsbluff, Nebr. Since that time, they made their home in Lusk.

Mr. Stone had been a lifetime member of the Eaton Masonic Lodge No. 109, and was a pastmaster. He was also a member of the Eastern Star there and a past matron of the order. He has been a member of the Lusk Lions club for over ten years.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Mrs. Sally Stone, of Lusk, Wyo., and two brothers, F. B. Stone of Greeley, Co., and C. E. Stone of Eaton, Colo.

Relatives here to attend the services were Miss Helen Grant of Seattle, Wash., Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Whaley and son of Iliff Park, Idaho, the ladies being sisters of Mrs. Stone, and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Hicks and son of Worland, Mr. Hicks being Mr. Stone's nephew.
