Body of Kenneth Higinbotham to Be Returned for Burial

The body of T/Sgt. Kenneth A. Higinbotham is expected to arrive in Lusk in the near future for re-interment here. When it does, the family is requesting strictly graveside services.

Sgt. Higinbotham was the husband of the late Nellie DeGering Higinbotham. He was killed in October, 1943, when his plane was forced down by enemy action on the Switzerland frontier, and he was buried in Switzerland.

Mrs. Higinbotham, a nurse, contracted tuberculosis while serving in the tuberculosis ward of Fitzsimmons General Hospital of Denver, and died December 20, 1945. She is buried here.

At the Herald press time no further word had been received as to the time of arrival of the body of Pfc. Lester Hoy.

Body Sgt. Higinbotham To Arrive Saturday

Word has been received at the Peet Mortuary that the body of T/Sgt. Kenneth A. Higinbotham will arrive on the train from the East at 6:39 p.m., Saturday evening.

The remains will be accompanied by a military escort. Private graveside services only will be held for the reinterment, but the time is still indefinite as The Herald goes to press.

Sgt. Higinbotham's remains are being returned from Switzerland where his plane was shot down in 1943.

Sgt. Higinbotham Service Sunday

Graveside services were conducted for T/Sgt. Kenneth A. Higginbotham on Sunday at 1:00 p.m., in the Lusk Cemetery by Rev.
Lawrence P. Juell.

The casket bearers were Edward Bryant of Laramie, Robert Vincent of Denver, Don DeGering, Ed Boner, Milton DeGering and Jim Boner.

Only relatives and a few close friends were present when the war hero was laid in his last resting place.

Those present were Mrs. Mary Higinbotham, mother of the deceased; Mr. and Mrs. Bennett Higinbotham, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Vincent and daughter, all of Denver; Mr. and Mrs. Edward Bryant of Laramie, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Boner and Mrs. Myrtle Hamilton of Edgemont, So. Dak.; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Boner, Mrs. Mabel McGraw, Mrs. Izetta Boner, Bobby Boner and Mr. and Mrs. Albert DeGering.

T/Sgt Higinbotham was shot down while flying over Switzerland in 1943 and he was given a military funeral there and memorial services were held for him in Denver at that time.

His wife, the former Nellie DeGering of Lusk, died in 1945 and is buried here, and he was laid beside her.

The remains were brought to Lusk under military escort.

Sgt. Kenneth Higinbotham, Husband Of Niobrara Girl, Killed in Action

Word received from the War Department last Sunday by Mr. and Mrs. Albert DeGering told of the death of their son-in-law, T/Sgt. Kenneth A. Higinbotham, who was killed in action in the European theatre of war. Sergeant Higinbotham was an aerial photographer and was serving on one of the U. S. Army's B-17 Flying Fortresses. Details concerning his death were not contained in the message.

Mrs. DeGering and daughter, Miss Esther left by bus Sunday afternoon for Denver, to take the message to and be with Mrs. Higinbotham, the former Nettie DeGering, who had only recently returned to her duties as nurse at Fitzsimmons hospital. She had visited her parents at their ranch in the north Hat Creek community since August and had returned to Denver September 30th.

The young couple were married in Denver on January 1, 1942.
