Myrtle "Midge" Bower

Myrtle "Midge" Bower was born Dec. 18, 1902 in Anselmo, Nebr. She grew up in Broken Bow and graduated from there. After graduating from high school, she worked as a clerk in the general store there.

Midge met her husband Tom in Broken Bow. They were married Aug 2, 1928 in Broken Bow and moved to the Platte Valley Ranch where they worked several years. They lived on various ranches in the Lost Springs and Manville areas.

In 1954, they moved to Lance Creek where they had purchased the Jim Klint ranch and lived there until her death. Midge was an active ranch wife where she spent many hours on horseback with her husband, Tommy. She loved her Hereford cattle.

Midge always welcomed people into her home. No one ever went away hungry. She was a very talented and clever little lady.

Midge was an active member of the Manville and Gumbo Hustlers Homemakers clubs for 30 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband Tom, her parents and two sisters.

She is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Blanche Clark, Mrs. Lucille Williams, both of Niles, Mich., and Mrs. Ethel Hopkins of Emmett, Idaho and one brother, Bill Pirnie of Arnold Nebr.

She leaves her friends and neighbors with many fond memories.

Services were conducted at Peet Mortuary Chapel in Lusk March 5, 1984 with Rev. Daniel D. Gainer officiating. Music was provided by Marilyn Pennington, organist and vocalists Carolyn Hammond and Jeanne Gainer who sang "Just a Closer Walk With Thee" and "Peace in the Valley".

Active bearers were Walter Kant, Ted Pennington, John Olson, Elmer Nelson, Jesse York and Ben Mosier.

Interment was in Lusk Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the E.M.T. Ambulance Fund.

Arrangements were by Peet Mortuary.

Attend Bower Funeral

Many from this area attended the funeral for Myrtle "Midge" Bower in Lusk March 5th. Mrs. Bower, 81, died in Scottsbluff March 1st. Mrs. Bower and her late husband Tom had ranched in the Lance Creek area since 1954.

Paying their last respects were Mr. and Mrs. Ben Mosier and Eric, Mr. and Mrs. Bud Ellis, Rod Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Huff, Mrs. Donald Johnson, Mrs. Buster Penfield, Mrs. Clem Mosier, Jesse York, Alvie Manning, Mrs. Jim Groves, Mr. and Mrs. John Olson, Walt Kant, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hammond, Mrs. Mike Hodge, Mrs. Larry Lowe and Misty, Mr. and Mrs. Pat Miller and family, Laura Klenk, Shelley Hood and Pastor and Mrs. Daniel Gainer.

Relatives here for the funeral were Ethel Hopkins and grandson Darren Hopkins of Emmett, Idaho and Mr. and Mrs. Bernard McIntyre of Wabach, Nebr.
