Vern H. Schutt Dies at Ranch Home

Vern Schutt died suddenly Thursday evening, April 17 while sitting at the dining table eating his evening meal at his ranch home some eight miles from Keeline.

Mr. Schutt had seemed in good health and had worked in his fields all day. His mother, Mrs. Martha Schutt, happened to be at the home at the time of his passing, otherwise his wife and infant son would have been alone at the time of the tragedy.

Verner Herrmann Schutt was born December 29, 1905 at Davied City, Nebr., the son of Louis and Martha Schutt. He passed away April 17, 1947 at the age of 41 years.

At the age of 14 Verner was confirmed in the Lutheran Church at Sidney, Nebr. About 25 (missing) family moved (missing) community. In this community he finished his public school education. Following that he spent about 10 years in Oregon and Idaho where he was employed. He entered the army June 5, 1942 and received a medical discharge June 15, 1943 at Camp Atterbury, Ind.

At Pasadena, Calif., April 16, 1944 he married Miss Grace Baker of Keeline. They have one son, Dennis Ray, who is two months old. In September, 1946 they moved to Keeline and took over the Schutt ranch. They have lived there since that time.

Verner passed away with a heart attack the day after the couple had celebrated their third wedding anniversary.

Besides his wife and son, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Martha Schutt of Lusk; three brothers, Archie of Los Angeles, Calif., Marion of Keeline, and Carl of Lusk; three sisters, Mrs. Alma Densborn of Lusk, Mrs. Ernest Rowland of Temple City, Calif., and Mrs. Carlow Guerroero of Pasadena, Calif.; two nieces, three nephews, an aunt and several uncles.

His father, a brother, Florn who was killed in action, and a sister, Elsie, preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at the Peet Chapel with Rev. Lawrence Juell officiating. The songs, "Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden" were sung by Dorothy Humphrey, Phyllis Owens and Donley Unruh with Mrs. H. J. Templeton as accompanist.

Interment was made in the Lusk cemetery where a military graveside service was conducted.

The casket bearers were Pete Kechter, Wilmer Baars, Frank Mahnke, Nels Mariegard, Carl Elkins and George Mundschenk.
