Claudia Grant Dalton

On September 9, 2010 at 12:00 p.m., surrounded by her family, our mother, Claudia Grant Dalton, slipped quietly into God's warm embrace. Claudia is survived by her sons, David, Bryan (Debbie), Mark (Debra Ward) and Daniel.

Claudia was born in 1924 in Keeline, Wyoming. She was educated in Wyoming and during World War II, performed a number of jobs supporting our country. She found her true life's work when she went to nursing school in Chicago, Illinois graduating in 1944 and then moved to Tucson in 1948 with her brother, Morris. Claudia met Woodrow Dalton in 1951 and they were married in 1952. They settled in their small southwest home where "Woody" was an airman at David Monthan Air Force Base and Claudia worked in nursing. Woody and Claudia raised their four boys and followed Woody's military career moving first to Biggs Air Force Base in El Paso, Texas and then to Loring Air Force Base in Maine, where Woody retired. Claudia and Woody returned to Tucson in 1968 and remained here for the rest of their lives. She worked at the Veterans hospital while raising her children and retired in 1989. Woody passed in 1995 after a long illness. Claudia remained active in the community and finally traveled the world with her family during her busy retirement. She was a wonderful supporter of the University of Arizona and was a true Wildcat. Claudia was well known in the Tucson area and had a wide network of friends and relatives who will miss her dearly. She was a compassionate, selfless person and helped so many people throughout her life. Claudia touched many hearts and souls, yet never stopped to ask help for herself.

Her beauty and strength became a fabric of our lives and we will all miss her. She was a true angel and we thank God for everything that she has passed on to her family and friends. Services will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at FUNERARIA DEL ANGEL SOUTH LAWN, 5401 S. Park Ave. at 11:00 a.m. followed by a brief eulogy at the gravesite. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to the American Lung Association.
