Death of Mrs. John Shippen

Our community was again brought to mourn the loss of one of our much beloved friends by the death of Mrs. John Shippen, which occurred at her late home at Kaycee, Wyoming last Rhursday June 11, after a few days illness with paralysis. Mrs. Shippen until a few years ago was a well known and highly respected resident of this community and she is remembered by a host of friends here by her many acts of kindness and sterling character.

Her remains arrived here last Saturday for burial and on Sunday morning the funeral services were held at the M. E. Church and many friends and relatives were present to extend their last rites of love and respect for the deceased. Rev. Whitman officiated at the services and the following gentlemen acted as pall bearers: R. H. Burhoop, E. L. Bowen and H. J. Baughn.

The following obituary was read at the funeral.

Clarissa Jane Mickey was born Jan. 29, 1856 in Louisa county, Iowa, and died June 11, 1914, at her home near Kaycee, Wyo., after an illness of seven days, following a stroke of apoplexy, being at the time of her death 58 years, 4 months and 12 days of age.

She lived with her parents in eastern Iowa until the spring of 1875 when she went out to western Iowa to the home of her sister Mr. N. B. Allen, where she made her home until her marriage to John N. Shippen on June 29, 1876. Mr. and Mrs. Shippen came to Manville, Wyo., June 4, 1888 and resided in or near here until 1903, when they removed to Buffalo and later to their present home near Kaycee.

Mrs. Shippen was a kind and hospitable neighbor and their home in Manville was always open to their friends. She was ever ready and willing to help in times of sickness or bereavement and will long be remembered by a large circle of friends and acquaintances for her many deeds of kindness and sympathy. While in Manville, Mrs. Shippen united with the Methodiist church and took an active part in different lines of Christian work.
