Margaret N. Brashear, 98, of Cheyenne, died, Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013 at Life Care Center of Cheyenne.

She was born Dec. 29, 1914 at the home ranch in western Nebraska, 18 miles south of Hay Springs, in Sheridan County, the daughter of William Allen "Will" and Winnifred "Winnie" (Stabb) Heaton.

Mrs. Brashear attended country school; graduated from Hay Springs High School and received a degree from Chadron State Teacher's College in 1937.

She married Richard "Dick" Brashear on Nov. 24, 1938 in Scottsbluff. The family lived on a farm five miles west of Scottsbluff in Mitchell Valley. In 1949, they sold this property and moved to a farm west of Wheatland. In 1959, they moved to Lusk where Dick became manager of the A.S.C.S. office and Margaret started teaching. She taught country schools in Platte, Goshen, Niobrara Counties and the 4th grade in Lusk until her retirement in 1977. They wintered together in Mesa, Arizona until his death in 1980. Margaret continued to winter there even as a widow. In 1998, she returned to Wheatland and renewed the friendships of the 1950's.

Through the years Margaret enjoyed her family and homes, friends, flower gardening, boating, traveling, reading, playing cards and crewel, and counted cross stitch embroidery.

She was a member of the United Church of Christ, Dorcas Society, P.E.O. Chapter I, and Retired Teachers Association.

Survivors include her daughters, Bonnie G. Jenkins of Cheyenne and Judy A. Fulghum of Billings, Montana; sister, Jeanette O'Blenness of Mesa; grandchildren Danne' Searle, Leshia (Dan) Baker and Stephanie Stephan; great-grandchildren, Drew R. Baker, Megan M. Baker and Alexandria Stephan; a sister-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dick on September 6, 1980; two brothers; and two sisters.
