Former Lance Creek post mistress Gladys Mangis died Tuesday, January 19, 1988 at a Billings MT hospital.

Memorial services will be Friday, Jan. 22 at 3 p.m. at the Evangelical Methodist Church in Billings.

Survivors include her husband, Herbert; one son, Herbert Jr., both of Billings; one daughter, Mrs. Richard Mangis of Yuma, AZ; and five grandchildren.

Memorials to the church or to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.

Gladys Marion Mangis

Memorial services were held January 22, 1988 at the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Billings, MT for Gladys Marion Mangis 74, of Billings, formerly of Lance Creek. She died January 19, 1988 in her home from cancer.

She was born and raised in Froid, daughter of Peter and Martha Olson, and during her high school years she worked as a telephone switchboard operator. On Oct. 14, 1936 she married K. Herbert Mangis in Billings, and they lived in Cody, Lovell and Lance Creek before returning to Billings in 1982.

She served as the postmistress in Lance Creek from Dec. of 1971 until retiring in Feb. of 1982. She was fiercely proud of her position as postmistress and received many awards for excellence.

She was a devoted wife and mother, and enjoyed baking, cooking and playing bridge.

She served as secretary of the board of the Methodist Church in Lovell for many years, was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Billings, past president of the Lovell PTA and helped edit the Wyoming PTA news. She had been a Cub Scout den mother, a DeMolay mother, and a member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, Order of the Eastern Star, National Association of Postmasters United States, the Billings Newcomers Club and Senior Citizens.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Herbert J. of Billings and Richard Ray of Yuma, AZ; three sisters, Mrs. Dale Swartz, Mrs. James Phair and Mrs. Myrtle Barrington, all of Billings; one brother, John Olson of Missoula; and five grandchildren.

Smith Downtown Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
