Robert Joseph Shockley

Memorial services for Robert Joseph Shockley, 84, of Harrison, Nebraska, will be held Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Nativity in Harrison, Nebraska, with Father Bernard Berger and Father Arul Innaiah officiating. Inurnment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Harrison. Bob passed away December 29, 2014.

He was born October 20, 1930, in Byron, Wyoming to James and Lennie Shockley. As a boy, Bob went to school in Byron and lived in Billings. He graduated from High School in 1948. After high school, he attended the University of Wyoming, receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Arts in 1952. In November of the same year, Bob was drafted into the Army and was stationed in Alaska as a radio specialist.

After being honorably discharged in 1954, Bob returned to the University of Wyoming in order to receive his Master of Arts degree in Speech. While attending, Bob met and fell in love with Roberta Wasserburger.

Bob and Roberta married on August 25, 1956, in Harrison, Nebraska. After their marriage, they lived in Torrington, Wyoming for two years while Bob taught at the Torrington High School. To their union two children were adopted, Rebecca Lenn and Joseph Robert. Bob and his family lived and worked on the Wasserburger Brothers ranch north of Harrison, where he enjoyed fishing and watching his children grow. He was also very active in the running of the sale barns in Lusk, Wyoming and in Harrison.

Bob was a member of the Catholic Church. He was active on the Sioux County Board of Regents from 1976-1988, and would go on to teach music at the schools in the early 1990's. Bob was elected on to the Niobrara Electric Association board in 1977 and served until 2012, a total of 35 years.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Law; grandchildren, T.J. (Sarah) Boyd and Jessica Boyd; great-grandchildren, Conner Osten, Daxton Weast, and Ross Boyd; and many more family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta; son, Joe; sister, Elsie May; and his parents.

A memorial has been established for the Harrison Rescue Unit. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, PO Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337.
