Marian Jeanette Browder

Marian Jeanette Thompson Browder died at the age of 94 at Cozy Corner in Lusk, Wyoming, May 6th, 2019 around midnight of natural causes.

Marian was born to Arthur and Inga (Paulsen) Thompson August 27, 1924, Kirtley, Wyoming at her parents ranch 22 miles NE of Lusk. She graduated from Lusk High School in 1942. She enrolled in University of Denver, in Denver, Colorado taking a pre-med course, then continued her training in the Children’s Hospital in Denver, Colorado. She then entered the Methodist Hospital of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, and then was employed at the Spencer Hospital, in Lusk, Wyoming for two years before marrying.

Marian married Verne W. Browder October 16, 1955. They had two children, Elizabeth Anne born August 4, 1956 and Terrance Arthur born October 29th, 1958. She helped Verne on his family ranch in Prairie Center for ten years. In 1956 Verne and Marian moved to her father’s ranch (Arthur Thompson) which is 22 miles NE of Lusk, Wyoming. They worked this ranch and eventually called it the Browder Ranch after Arthur and Inga Thompson passed away. They remained on the ranch until they retired in 2003.

Marian was a member of the Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority of Lusk and a member of the Divide Tumbleweed Extension Club. She was awarded for 40 years of service to the Wyoming Homemakers Organization in 2001 and at that time was a member of the Indian Creek Homemakers Club. Then in 2016 Niobrara County Homemakers Association awarded her a 55 year certificate. She was a member of the American Legion Post #1 of Van Tassell.

Marian was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Inga Thompson, and her sisters Eleanor Thompson Witzenburger and Camille Thompson, and her brother Bud Thompson, and husband Verne W. Browder.

Marian is survived by her daughter Elizabeth Anne (Brent) McQuery and son Terrance Arthur Browder, granddaughter Terry Ann Browder, grandson Mike (Kira), great-grandson Bowen Arthur Browder, and great-granddaughters Linea and Mavis Browder; two nephews Bruce and Steve Witzenburger, and niece Sandy (Forrest) Asmus (Witzenburger).

Services will be held at 1:30 pm on Monday the 13th of May 2019 at First Baptist Church in Lusk. Graveside services will held at Kirtley at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, with coffee and cake afterwards at the Melvin Zumbrunnen home.
