Funeral Services for Elmus Corbin are Held Friday

Funeral services for Elmus Corbin, 94, of Mitchell and formerly of Sioux county, were held from the Harrison Memorial Methodist Church Friday, July 5 with the Rev. J. Lee Gorman officiating.

He was born January 13, 1874, in Galesburg, Ill. where he received his early education. In 1888 he came to Nebraska with his parents and they established a homestead in Sioux County.

As a young man, he was employed as helper in a Lead, South Dakota Foundry using his wages to purchase cattle. After seven years he returned to Sioux County and settled 11 miles south of Harrison.

He married Katherine Gerlock, June 15, 1904, in Harrison and they continued to make their home on the ranch in Sioux County until retiring and moving to Mitchell in 1951.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, Katherine, are three sons, George F. of Seattle, Wash., Ben of Marsland and Lewis "Pat" of Harrison; two daughters Mrs. Eleanor Anderson of Cheyenne Wyo. and Katherine Thorson of Mitchell; 12 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son Harold in 1947 and a daughter Gladys in 1906 and by 3 brothers and 5 sisters.

Burial was in the Harrison cemetery with Jones Mortuary of Mitchell in charge of arrangements.

A memorial to the Memorial Methodist Church of Harrison has been established.

Mr. Corbin died in a Scottsbluff Hospital Tuesday, July 2.
