Clarence Dout, Lifelong Sioux Resident Dies

Clarence Dout, lifelong resident and prominent rancher of Sioux County, died at his ranch suddenly on June 20. He had suffered a heart attack several years earlier but had remained very active until the time of his death.

Funeral Service was held at the Memorial United Methodist Church in Harrison on Saturday afternoon with the Rev. Larry Shrout officiating. Burial was in the Harrison Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bill Coffee, Everett Thomas, Ollie Seaman, Clarence Schnurr, Frank Cherry and Adolph Zurcher. Honorary pallbearers included T. M. Powell, Venus Kilmer, Bill Munson, Jack Parsons, Bruce Parsons, Les (Eck) Plunkett, Lynn (Monk) Barkus, Ernest Pullen, Elmer (Tug) Pullen and Norbert Wasserburger.

Clarence H. Dout was born September 19, 1902, in Harrison to Leonard and Myrtle Dout. He spent all of his life in Sioux County. He attended elementary school in Harrison and graduat3ed from Sioux County High School with the Class of 1920.

He was married to Leona Pullen at Harrison on September 14, 1925. They were parents of two daughters and three sons.

Clarence spent his entire life cattle ranching and the past few years he also raised registered Arabian horses. He was a board member of School District 76 since 1925. He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge 277, serving as master twice and being master at the present time. He also was an active member of the eastern star Lodge 319, serving as associate patron at the time of his death.

He leaves his widow Leona, and three children, Phyllis and her husband John Chlecq of Rumford, S. D.; Doris and her husband Norman Wickersham of Harrison, Ray Dout and wife Debra of Harrison; seven grandchildren, Bruce Wickersham and his wife Crystal of Harrison, Becky Serres and her husband George of Crawford, Linda Hauski and her husband Ron of Sturgis, S. D., Scott, Mike, Neal, and Dale Wickersham all of Harrison.

He was preceded in death by two infant sons, his parents and a sister, Irva Dout.
