67 children attended an fun-filled Reading is Fundamental (RIF) program this past week. If your child wasn’t able to attend be sure to come in April for the third and final RIF, children will be able to select books for the programs that missed as well.
A free online resource is now available for beginning readers! Scholastic’s BookFlix pairs classic video storybooks with related nonfiction to build a love of reading and learning. BookFlix reinforces early reading skills and introduces children to a world of knowledge and exploration. If you don’t have a library card, bring proof of address and stop by.
A new fiction book for adults is “Gone to Ground” by John Harvey. When academic Stephen Bryan is found dead in this bathroom, suspicion falls on his boyfriend, but there is no proof of guilt. So Stephen’s sister conducts her own investigation which leads her into danger and horrendous family secrets.
Other new fiction books include “Sizzle and Burn” by Jane Ann Krentz, “Stranger in Paradise” by Robert B. Parker, “The Opposite of Love” by Julie Buxbaum, “Rowdy in Paris” by Tim Sandlin and “The Purrfect Murder” by Rita Mae Brown.
New adult non-fiction books include “The Bloody Shirt: Terror After Appomattox” by Stephan Budiansky, “Kim Lyon’s Your Body, Your Life: the 12-Week Program to Optimum Physical, Metal, and Emotional Fitness” by Kim Lyons and “Wolves in Russia: Anxiety Through the Ages” by Will N. Graves.
A new young adult book is “Full House: 10 Stories about Poker” edited by Pete Hautman.
The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has these new junior books: “Nightmare on Hannah Street” by Laurie McElroy, “Crushes and Camping” by Michael Poryes and“Face-Off” by Alice Alfonsie.
New easy titles are “Dora Climbs Star Mountain” by Alison Inches, “It’s a Sharing Day” by Kirsten Larsen, “Diego and Papi to the Rescue” by Wendy Wax and “Zinnia’s Flower Garden” by Monica Wellington.
“Out Like a Lamb” is the theme for Storyhour on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 and Thursday, March 20, 2008 and will feature an Easter Egg hunt (weather permitting). Storyhour is held each Tuesday and Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. for children ages 3 through kindergarten.
