Library News

The library will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 2008 and Friday, November 28, 2008. Regular hours resume on Sunday, November 30, 2008 at Noon. Library hours are Noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and Noon to 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

The third of three films in the Film Noir @ the Library series will be presented on Monday, November 24 at 6 p.m. Humphrey Bogart stars as Philip Marlowe, Raymond Chandler’s tough, cynical, but charming private eye in “The Big Sleep.” Marlowe investigates the gambling debts of the wealthy General Sternwood’s younger daughter and is plunged into a world of blackmail, deception, and violence in this classic film noir. Lauren Bacall is the general’s older daughter and the sparks fly between her and Bogie in a classic duo performance. Deane Tucker, Professor of Humanities at Chadron State College will facilitate the discussion which will include a light meal. For more information call the library at 334-3490.

A new fiction book is “One Perfect Gift” by Kathleen Morgan. Jessica Ashmore, a penniless widow and her young daughter, Emma, came to the Colorado high plains in the winter of 1933. Jessica finds a temporary position on a ranch taking care of a stroke victim, Abby MacKay. At first she is met with antagonism from Abby’s son, Sean, but as the Holidays approach, his feelings begin to chance.

Other new books include “Faefever” by Karen Marie Moning, “Sinner” By Ted Dekker, “The Eight” by Katherine Neville, “Deadly Night” by Heather Graham, “The Quilter’s Kitchen” by Jennifer Chiaverini and “Night Fall at Little Acres” by Ralph Cotton.

New non-fiction books are “Izzy and Lenore: Two Dogs, an Unexpected Journey, and Me” by Jon Katz, “Being Christian: Exploring Where You, God, and Life Connect” by Stephen Arterburn and“Betty Crocker’s Small Bites: 100 Recipes For the Way You Really Cook.”

A new young adult book is “Sucks To Be Me!: the All-True Confessions of Mina Hamilton, Teen Vampire (Maybe)” by Kimberly Pauley.

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has these new chapter books “Really Truly Ruthie” by Valerie Tripp and “The Maze of Bones” by Rick Riordan. New picture books are “Bats At the Library” by Brian Lies and “Too Many Toys” by David Shannon.

“Happy Thanksgiving!” is the theme for Storyhour on Tuesday, November 25. Storyhour is held each Tuesday and Thursday (except Holidays from 10 to 11 a.m. for children ages 3 through kindergarten throughout the year.
