What if mankind had to leave Earth and somebody forgot to turn the last robot off? The year is 2700 and WALL-E is a robot still spending every day doing what he was made for. Soon he is visited by a sleek robot named EVE whom he chases across the galaxy with a pet cockroach and a heroic team of malfunctioning misfit robots. The movie, “WALL-E” will be shown at the library on Wednesday, December 31 at 1 p.m. The film is rated G and is 98 minutes. We’ll provide the popcorn, bring your own drink.

Please remember that the library will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 24, through Friday, December 26, 2008 for Christmas, regular hours resume on Sunday, December 28 from Noon until 5 p.m. The library will also close at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 and be closed Thursday, January 1, 2009 for the New Year holiday. Regular hours resume on Friday, January 2 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.

A new fiction book is “Divine Justice” by David Baldacci. John Carr, “alias Oliver Stone,” with two pulls of the trigger, silenced the men who had destroyed his life and kept him in the shadows. Now the U. S. Government has unleashed a massive manhunt and master spy, Macklin Hayes wants Stone dead and is playing a very personal game of cat and mouse. As with most of Baldacci’s books this is sure to please.

Other new fiction includes “Texas Sunrise” by Elmer Kelton, “The Spy Who Came for Christmas” by David Morrell, “The Longing” by Beverly Lewis, “Under the Mistletoe” by Linda Howard and “Swallowing Darkness” by Laurell K. Hamilton.

New non-fiction books are “John Lennon: The Life” by Philip Norman, “Dogology: What Your Relationship with Your Dog Reveals about You” by Vicki Croke and “100 Ways to Simplify Your Life” by Joyce Meyer.

A new young adult book is “Love, Hollywood Style” by P. J. Pudits. Several new authors have been added to the Young Adult section, be sure to check it out.

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has these new chapter books “The Trouble with Brothers”by P. J. Denton, “Ivy and Bean: Take Care of the Babysitter” by Annie Barrows, “The Scream of the Haunted Mask” by R. L. Stine. New picture books are “Little Jake Hunts Alaska” and “Little Jake’s Big Bow Hunt” by Robert H. Jacobs, Jr.

Happy New Year! is the theme for Storyhour on Tuesday, December 31. Storyhour is held on Tuesday and Thursday from from 10 to 11 a.m. for children ages 3 through kindergarten (with the exception of holidays).
