Library News

The library will close at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 and be closed on Thursday, January 1, 2009 for the New Year holiday. Normal hours resume on Friday, January 2nd from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.

Registration begins on January 5 for the winter session of the Afterschool Programs, call the library at 334-3490 to register your children or for more information. Children’s Librarian, Yvonne Jensen is planning a fun two-month session featuring Fun and Games. Children in the first and second grades will meet on Tuesdays, beginning on January 13 and children in the third through fifth grades will meet on Thursdays, beginning January 15.

The Niobrara County Library Foundation will be hosting a Wine Tasting on Sunday, January 18 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Niobrara Country Club. Tickets are $30.00 prior to January 12 and the event will feature a variety of wines as well as specialty hors d’oeuvres and chocolates. Tickets are available at the library stop by the library or from foundation members. After January 12 tickets for this event are $40.

“Leaving Whiskey Bend” by Dorothy Garlock is now on the new book shelf. When a woman is assaulted on the streets of Whiskey Bend, she and her two friends decide to leave town in search of a new life and safety. It is a journey that will take them to the very edge of hopelessness.

Other new fiction includes “Deadly Harvest” by Heather Graham, “The Darkest Night” by Gena Showalter, “Sweet Talk” by Susan Mallery, “Poacher’s Moon” by Wyoming author, John Nesbitt and “Every Now and Then” by Karen Kingsbury.

Be sure to check out the new non-fiction, including: “Born Country: How Faith, Family, and Music Brought Me Home” by Randy Owen, “Happy at Last: the Thinking Persons Guide to Finding Joy” by Richard O’Connor, M.S.W., PhD., and “Call Me Ted” by Ted Turner.

A new young adult book is “Party Games” by Whitney Lyles.

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has these new chapter books “Creeps From the Deep” by R. L. Stine, “Martin Bridge – Blazing Ahead” by Jessica Scott Kerrin and “Pugsley” by Ellen Miles. New picture books are “The Curse of Snake Island” and “Ahoy, Ghost Ship Ahead” by Brian James.

Snow Fun! is the theme for Storyhour on Tuesday, January 6 and Thursday, January 8. Storyhour is held on Tuesday and Thursday from from 10 to 11 a.m. for children ages 3 through kindergarten.
