“Hey Kids!” returns this summer! Children choose a goal of how many books (or pages) that can be read in a week – they do this twice and then receive a pass either for an ice cream cone, courtesy of the Bar BQ or entry to the swimming pool, courtesy of the Town of Lusk. Be sure to bring your children by soon for all the details and to select their goals and books. This program continues throughout the summer.

The Friends of the Library are preparing for the annual book sale and ice cream social which will be held on Saturday, June 25. If you have books that you would like to donate for the sale they can be dropped by the library anytime between now and then.

It’s “Megamind” showing at the library on Thursday, June 16 at 1 p.m. “Megamind” puts a whole new spin on the superhero movie; rated PG and 96 minutes this film is packed with high-flying action and non-stop laughs. The library provides the popcorn, bring your own drink.

A new book by Luanne Rice is “The Silver Boat.” Dar, Delia, and Rory come home to Martha’s Vineyard one last time to say goodbye to the family beach house. Memories of their grandmother, mother and their Irish father (who sailed away the year Dar, the oldest turned 12) rise up and expose the fine crack in their family myth – especially when a cache of old letters reveals enough truth to send them back to their ancestral homeland.

Other new fiction books include “The Pope’s Assassin” by Luis M. Rocha, “It Happened One Season” by Stephanie Laurens, “Home to Woefield” by Susan Juby, “Field Gray” by Philip Kerr, “Dead By Midnight” by Carolyn Hart, “Miles to Go” by Richard Paul Evans and “My One and Only” by Kristan Higgins. A new book for the young adult is “Wish You Weren’t Here” by Melissa J. Morgan.

New non-fiction books are “The Dressmaker of Khair Khana: Five Sisters, One Remarkable Family, and the Woman Who Risked Everything to Keep Them Safe” by Gayle Tzemach Lemmon and “One Hundred Names for Love: a Stroke, a Marriage, and the Language of Healing” by Diane Ackerman.

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has these new junior books “Slappy New Year” by R. L. Stine, “Rumble in the Rain Forest” by Sarah Hines Stephens and “Good Job, Kanani” by Lisa Yee.
