Don’t forget that Saturday, June 25 the Friends of the Library will be hosting their annual book sale and ice cream social! The sale begins at 8 a.m. on the library lawn, with cake and homemade cakes at 11:00. Proceeds benefit the library in a variety of ways, from purchasing periodicals and books to children’s programming and Dial-A-Story (334-3274)!

Coming June 30, the movie “Diary of a Wimpy Kid : Rodrick Rules” will be shown at 1 p.m. Rated PG and 99 minutes this is the story of Greg Heffley, the kid who made “wimpy” cool and the war with his older brother, Rodrick. His parents have handed down the toughest punishment imaginable – forcing the boys to spend quality time together! Sure to be enjoyed by all, the library provides the popcorn, bring your own drink.

Saturday, July 9 at 2 p.m. the library lawn (bring your lawn chairs) will be the site of a Wild West Show featuring “Buffalo Bill” Boycott and his Shoshone friend, Willie LeClair with a variety program that is sponsored by the Niobrara County Library Foundation. This event is sure to entertain! Plan to stay for the Legend of Rawhide parade shortly after the program!

A new fiction book is “The Love of My Youth” by Mary Gordon. Miranda and Adam, high school sweethearts now in their late 50’s, arrive by chance at the same time in Rome, a city where they once spent a summer deeply in love only to part in an atmosphere of passionate betrayal. Both are now married to others with grown children, but as they meet for daily walks to take in the pleasures of the city they discover what matters to them now and also to understand what happened to them that summer long ago.

Other new books include “The Sixth Man” by David Baldacci, “Eve” by Iris Johansen, “The Priest’s Graveyard” by Ted Dekker, “Daughters-in-law” by Joanne Trollope, “Bel-Air Dead” by Stuart Woods, “The Saturday Big Tent Wedding” by Alexander McCall Smith, “The Vaults” by Toby Ball and “Knockdown” by Sarah Graves. “What Happened to Goodbye” by Sarah Dessen is on the new YA shelf.

New non-fiction books are “If You Ask Me (and Of Course You Won’t)” by Betty White, “The Essential Guide to Baby’s First Year” by Erika Landau, M.D. and “Play Your Best Golf Now: Discover Visions 54’s 8 Essential Playing Skills” by Pia Nilsson.

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has these new chapter books “The Crossbones” by Patrick Carman, “Attack of the Giant Flood” by Kathryn Lay and “Scooby Doo: the Agony of De Feet” by Robbie Busch. A new easy reader is “Happy Endings: a Story about Suffixes” by Robin Pulver.
