“Winchester 73” is the featured film on Monday, April 24 at 6 p.m. as the third installment of Jimmy Stewart’s American West Dinner & Movie series. Lin McAdam pursues notorious outlaw Henry “Dutch” Brown into Dodge City. There, in an effort to flush out the criminal, McAdam enters a sharp-shooting contest and wins the top prize: a Winchester rifle. Brown, desiring the rifle for himself, sneaks into McAdam’s room and makes off with it. After finding the rifle missing, McAdam chases Brown across the state toward an epic confrontation. A light meal will be available; library programs are free and open to the public.
South Dakota author Robyn VanDerSys will discuss her books and writing process during her visit to the library on Wednesday, May 3 at 6 p.m. In “75 Miles,” Samantha finds herself stranded 75 miles away from home after an EMP decimates infrastructures and the power grid. With the help of friends, she arms herself with a revolver and supplies then strikes out to hike home. Seeking a direct and safe route, she chooses to cross the Black Hills Forest, but quickly discovers it’s neither. “75 Miles” is available to checkout and will also be available to purchase on May 3. Plan to attend!
Road construction may impact the main entrance of the library at various times, when that is the case the entrances on the north and west side of the building will be available. A sign will be in the window letting you know that entrance is open. The library also offers delivery of materials so don’t hesitate to call!
The novel “All That is Mine I Carry with Me” is by William Landay. Ten-year-old Miranda Larkin came home from school to an empty house – her mom is missing. So begins a mystery that spans a lifetime. Investigators suspect criminal lawyer Dan Larkin, Jane’s husband, but no evidence is found to link him to the crime. Two decades later, Jane’s remains are discovered. The investigation is reawakened and Jane’s children now must choose – side with the father who raised them or side against him. This book is also available on CD and in Libby.

“The Ship Beneath the Ice: the Discovery of Shackleton’s Endurance” by Mensun Bound is among new non-fiction books along with “Soldier Secretary: Warnings from the Battlefield & the Pentagon About America’s Most Dangerous Enemies” by Christopher C. Miller and “Bookcases, Built-ins, & Cabinets” edited by Christina Glennon.
The Lenna Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has these new junior titles “Robot Rebellion” by Rie Neal, “Big Guys: Nailed It!” by Lincoln Peirce and “Curse of the Shadow Dragon” by Tracey West. Among new easy books are “Billy & Rose: Forever Friends” by Amy Hest, “Hedgehog’s Home for Spring” by Elena Ulyeva and “The Greedy Worm” by Jeff Newman.
