A heartwarming Christmas story is “The Bridge” by Karen Kingsbury. In May, a 100-year flood swept through Franklin, Tennessee destroying every book in The Bridge, the oldest book store in historic downtown. Now the bank is pulling the lease on The Bridge which is owned by Charlie and Donna Bartow; before Christmas another tragedy strikes when Charlie is involved in a car wreck and ends up in a coma. When Ryan Kelly hears the news, he remembers how much The Bridge had meant to him and Molly Allen before they went their separate ways, and he sets out to try and get donations from all of Charlie’s patrons over the years who might feel the same way – even Molly. Could the miracle of a second chance actually happen?

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has these new titles “Wreck-It Ralph” by Irene Trimble, “One False Note” by Gordon Korman and “Each Kindness” by Jacqueline Woodson. Some new easy books are “Christmas Parade” by Sandra Boynton, “Mice on Ice” by Rebecca Emberley and “The Birds of Bethlehem” by Tomie DePaola.
