Ted C. Eberspecher

Ted Eberspecher, a retired Lusk Businessman, died Sept. 22 at the home of his daughter in Newcastle following a lengthy illness.

Ted Eberspecher was born April 24, 1908, at Harrison, the son of John and Francie Jane Hill Eberspecher. He and Rachel Dunkin were married Sept. 21, 1934, in Chadron and they homesteaded north of Douglas before owning and operating a service station at Lance Creek. They then moved to Clearmont where they owned a ranch for a short time. When they moved to Lusk they owned and operated the Mobil Service Station.

Memorial service was held Saturday at Peet Mortuary Chapel with The Rev. Frank Blish officiating. Organist was Edna DeCastro and Mark Lohr, soloist, who sang "The Church in the Wildwood" and "One Day At A Time."

Interment was in Lusk Cemetery. Active bearers were David Shaw, John Eberspecher, William Eberspecher, Clyde Robertson, William Bourret and Jerry Eberspecher.

Memorials may be given to the Congregational Church, Lusk.

Mr. Eberspecher was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel; his parents; 6 brothers and 2 sisters.

He is survived by four daughters, Meredith Johnson of Sunset, Utah; Teddie Lou Ellis of Newcastle, Lynna Faye Engebretsen of Douglas, and Gail Haas of Scottsbluff; six grandchildren, Rhonda Groggan, RexAnn East, Trent Ellis, Richard Almazan, Tammy Johnson, Cherokee Engebretsen; 5 great-grandchildren; one brother and 3 sisters.

Following is a poem that was written in tribute to Mr. Eberspecher:

Ted
In remembering Ted, I'm sure that you can
Think of him as a family man,
Times with his grandchildren were special to him;
Just talking, or fishing, or caring for them.

He was good to his family and good to his friends,
His sense of humor was one without end.
Happy and joking, with a twinkle in his eye,
With tales to tell of the days gone by.

Of days in the 20's, with somebody's jug,
Of out trading horses, or riding a plug,
Of his childhood at Bodarc, or out breaking a mule;
He told it all funny, he was nobody's fool.

Of life on the homestead, when they were all broke-
He told it all like it was some kind of joke.
He talked and he laughed, he had lots of fun,
He had time for all, and was good to every one.

The years took their toll, he grew weak and thin;
Doctors and nurses were a nuisance to him.
He tried to get well, and knew all the while;
That life in the hospital just wasn't his style.

We hope he's in Heaven, with lots of fresh air-
We hope he understands just how much we care.
We'll never forget him, we'll all miss him so.
But we're all better off because we had him to know.
